Ball Security

Bermuda Triangle

Recommended Posts

simply put, the Bills, whether it's Allen or the RBs, need to take better care of the ball.  Two games in a row, the offense has basically handed the opposition 7 points, with drive starts inside the Bills' 10-yard line.   Singletary coughed it up once on Sunday and very nearly did it again on his last carry (it's hard to fumble when the other team wants you to score).

This team is really hard to beat even with the turnovers.  Clean those up, and well....

Is the book out on Motor?? Think the Steelers won't be raking at the ball when he carries it?

When the ball is tipped at the line it’s not on the QB

So you're saying the Bills should NOT turn the ball over?

Never would have thought of that!

But for real, it's become a bit of a pattern the last few years. The Bills start out somewhat lackadaisical with ball security. And as the season processes, they take it more seriously.

Punching/racking the ball out is SOP league wide, it is not specific to Singletary or any other individual RB,

if I’m McDermott, every Fumble, you have to clean all the toilets at the team facilities for a week…, 😁👍

@CalaisCampbell did know the game was tied, and there was less 30 seconds on the clock at the time, and at best they'd have gotten the ball inside their own 10, right?

Maybe Campbell had the Raven's D on his fantasy team. 🤷‍♀️

Disagree The directions were to force a fumble or let him score.  Its easier to try and force a fumble when you dont care to tackle the guy.

Horseshoes, hand grenades, etc.

Our RBs do fumble too often though.

If a punch at the ball lands from top down, there is a good chance it is coming out.  I did not notice this until the video posted above.  One of the Ravens' defenders puts his hands to his helmet and I assumed it was because the tackle was even made.  Maybe he saw how close it was to the ball coming out.

Singletary's fumble was a fantastic play by the Ravens defender, though it doesn't excuse it by any means. He wasn't carrying the ball loosely, he had sidestepped the defender and was on to his next move when the beaten defender grabbed at the ball from slightly behind with pinpoint accuracy & ripped it out.

It's concerning, but not a trend at this point.

Steelers will definitely have extra effort going into stripping the ball this week. Thankfully, Watt won't be there to uppercut our guys in the nuts while going after the ball.

That book was written years ago...

He had 4 fumbles as a rookie and 4 since (2.25 years).  He has improved but still suspect in that area.  Defenders in general punch at balls a lot more than they used to.  RB's more than ever need to always be secure in their handling of the ball.

I wouldn’t put too much stock in this play.  It’s like saying Matt Milano ALMOST had an INT.  He didn’t make the play…

But yeah I’m always concerned with Singletary fumbling and perhaps that’s one reason why coaches are hesitant to make him a true RB1
