TheFunPolice
Actually Belichick has 8 SB rings, one more than everyone's suddenly beloved Tommy.

Last year he coached a Average at best team to the playoffs… A rag arm quarterback in Mac Jones and a super overrated defense… He coached that to the playoffs He won 11 games with Matt Cassel as his starter … Coached the Browns to the playoffs Not to mention the tandem with him and Brady… Which started with shutting down the greatest show on turf He’s a defensive mastermind

Having said that, in my lifetime the best I have seen is Belichick, and before him it was Parcells. So in the era I am familiar with, those are 1 and 2. I remember Landry and guys like that but I was young. I'd say Parcells. Like you said it is hard to judge, but Parcells didn't have a super QB. He did have a great, MVP level D-player though. Shula would be up there. Andy Reid. I don't know,I try to look at who was really good without a domiant QB.
vincec
I would add Dick Vermeil and Weeb Ewbank to the consideration for that 10th spot.

The team was already playoff caliber when he got there Then there was the Tuck game that f’d the Raiders then it was PATRIOTIC to root for them after 9-11. Then there was Spygate do I need to keep listing them?
BillsFan130
1 hour ago, Gugny said: There has never been an elite head coach who didn't have an elite QB. The only one close might be Parcells. You take the starting QBs away from the "best ever," coaches and they're very likely JAGs. You don't win 6 super bowls if you're not a great coach. I think that's fair But at the same time it's hard to ignore his record without Tom. Tom Brady covered up a lot of his mistakes/poor draft selections. Even in that 2012 year when they lost in the SB to the giants, they got to the SB with having the last ranked defence. BB supposed to be a defensive coach but Tom Brady somehow carried that team to a SB appearance.

TOboy
I can’t really comment on coaches before my time. For me it’s Bill Walsh (innovation) and Parcels (got it done without the best QB’s). Based on accomplishments Belichek has to be in the convo, but I wouldn’t take him over a prime Walsh or Parcels.

Son of a K-Gun
Most Super Bowl wins as head coach; 6 - Belicheat (Tom Brady x 6) 4 - Chuck Noll (Terry Bradshaw x 4) 3 - Bill Walsh (Joe Montana x 3) Joe Gibbs (Doug Williams, Joe Theismann, Mark Rypien) One of these coaches took a slightly different approach from the rest…
