jaybills Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 Has there ever been offensive and defensive player of the year on the same team in the same year? Allen and Miller, and a Super Bowl ring, of course. Quote
Warriorspikes51 Posted September 29, 2022 Author Posted September 29, 2022 Von could get himself in the defensive MVP talk if he has a few sacks in the next couple games then has multiple against Mahomes in 3 weeks. He's been disrupting many plays. He nearly caused a defensive TD/Safety on Tua right before they punted from their own 1. He had 4-5 plays against Titans that were very close to Sacks / 2 very close to Forced Fumbles. Also, his impact on Rousseau likely can't be understated. Greg has 3.5 sacks and leads the NFL in Tackles For Loss Quote
Buffalo_Stampede Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 Von has been worth it. We’d be OK with Jerry but we lucked out with Chandler Jones not taking our money. See if you can find him. Quote

There have been a few times it was the same player, Alan Page with the Vikings and Lawrence Taylor with the Giants but I am assuming you are meaning two different players on the same team. Yes one time...49ers with Steve Young winning MVP and Deion Sanders winning Defensive MVP. Have been a few times where teams missed it by one year, including the Bills with Bruce Smith winning Defensive MVP and then Thurman winning MVP the next year. Great point on Chandler Jones.....he also would not have brought the confidence, energy and mentality of Von that the whole team seems to be soaking in Quote

SCBills Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 And we haven't even seen more than a quarter of Von Miller, Greg Rousseau and Ed Oliver playing together... 2 Quote
Bruffalo Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 He might be the best EDGE rusher of all time. He's certainly top 5 and up there with Bruce. Quote

Whoa...slow down tiger. He is 83 sacks behind Bruce. As many will point out Bruce did that primarily as a 3-4 DE at a time where pass attempts per game was far lower than now. Miller started as an off ball OLB edge rusher. He has developed into a great 4-3 DE. Also if Watt was healthy, I'm not sure Miller would be best this season let alone all time. Regardless Miller has been fantastic and I love how they are using him and keeping him fresh for the playoffs. Quote

Miller has a level of finesse to his game that is unmatched, he's practically invented new techniques that other pass rush specialists try to emulate. Bruce is one of my favorite players of all time, I don't mean any disrespect to him comparing Miller to him. Quote

Greg S Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 These stats are nice but we all know why Von was brought here. A good regular season from him will help us win games but his impact will be judged in Jan/Feb. Quote

Von was being very serious when he said he believes Rousseau will become the best pass rusher in the NFL over the next few years...hard to believe with Parsons wrecking things in Dallas and Watt in Pittsburgh, but he seems pretty confident in that.
