He’ll be 31 at the start of next season. I wouldn’t be opposed to it especially if it was the best player at the time of the draft pick keep in mind that centers can also play guard you could have a situation where the draft pick plays guard well Mitch Morse plays out his contract and then slides over
BullBuchanan
Mitch isn't even very good though. He's a mediocre C with no grit and injury history who's paid like a top C. We need an upgrade at the spot. 3 1
Low Positive
44 minutes ago, Big Turk said: Yes...there are two major things Allen missed from Morse being out. #1 in addition to changing plays at the line and alerting his skill position players, he ALSO had to set OLine protection calls, which caused the playclock to run down far more than usual and caused some hurried snaps...that is because Morse takes care of those for him when he is in and Allen doesn't need to worry about it. #2 Under center exchanges were greatly compromised with Van Roten in there instead of Morse so the fumbled exchange on the attempted kill spike at the end of the fist half AND the fact that Allen didn't attempt to take it from under center and just leap up in the air and stretch the ball out late in the 4th when were at like the 6 inch line like he did his rookie year in Minnesota. If Morse was in there, they likely don't have those issues and Allen easily scores to put us back on top...instead they attempted a shotgun read option that got stuffed. Crazy to think how little details and nuances can change the course of a game. It wasn't Van Roten snapping him the ball on the goal line in the 4th. That was Greg Mancz, a PS guard playing out of position at center.

If we had been truly drafting for BPA instead of being forced to draft for need, who knows how Sunday goes... I can't even imagine what our defense would have looked like on Sunday without Elam. I believe he was matched up against Tyreek Hill for much of the game, and he gave up 2 receptions for a total of 10 yards. That kind of shutdown CB is much harder to find than a solid center. That's why you draft premium positions in the 1st round. That being said if the Bills want to go OL heavy on day 2 and 3 of the draft next year I won't complain. They need to get some more young talent in the pipeline.

MiltonWaddams
By all reports, what the really special thing about Mitch is that his butt sweat offers more traction than the back-ups. Don't shoot the messenger...

Always thought Morse was a heck of a pass blocker but he’s probably the best run blocker on the team we have inside too. Obviously we had a ton of missed chances but if Mitch was simply in there we win this game easily. Get well soon man You do realize that our O line was also either completely gassed, or playing backups by the 4th for the most part? I’ve seen all kinds of blame being thrown around for lack of a running game. Mitch being out hurts for sure as noted by others but it is clear that good run blocking like we saw against LA for a fair number of plays requires the cohesion of the first unit, including line and receivers. Any time we play backups at these positions the run game goes To hell in a hand basket.

It’s clearly a position they are able to do a terrific job at finding to just plug and play thanks to a zone friendly scheme. Did you know the Bills run over 50% man coverage? The guards playing next to him have been only serviceable players at best. The Bills seems reluctant to invest a premium draft choice (meaning 2/3/4) on the C/G position. I say this assuming Cody Ford was supposed to be the RT bookend to Dion Dawkins. We have used the 3rd and 2nd rounds to pick running backs. We might be better served to pick up interior OL with these picks and use picks 5/6/7 for running backs. Agreed!! I like/love Beane's drafts...but missing on RBs instead of taking Oline is cringy. He picks in the 1st round on the Dline, but, looks for grocery baggers on the Oline. I think Morse is very solid. I like Bates. Dion is an above average LT. Beane just needs to focus a tad more on the interior Oline and it would make a big difference.

This is why as soon as Roten went out Eric Wood said they would have to go into shot gun the rest of the game. Big Turk
Not for nothing, but Centers are the Lynchpins of every line, not just ours. They are the ones with the most responsibility down in and down out to set protections and make sure the line is set up properly based on defensive alignment.

Airseven
Morse is the lynchpin partly because everyone else has struggled mightily. That being said, I thought Morse was washed two years ago. He’s done an impressive job overcoming age and injuries.
