In their defence (I feel dirty) an unafilliated doctor is required to check and clear any player who leaves the pitch with beleived concussion. Peter King stated that the doctor saw Tua before he returned to the game.

That's true.  They are supposed to be there to protect the player from the team doctor being more concerned about the team than the player.  In this instance it didn't work.  The Dolphins knew he was concussed, they saw the same replay we did.

I have no doubt that if any member of the Bills, whether Josh Allen or a back up special teamer, got their bell rung like that and couldn't even make it off the field on their own, our coaches would never allow them back into the game.  Say what you will about McDermott the coach, but I don't think anyone believes he would have put one of his players back out there in that situation.

Said NOBODY who watched that game!

I actually did say that he hurt his back at one point.

He got jammed hard on a sneak and it definitely jarred his spine.

It was about a half hour before his concussion.

That was not a “bad back” walk.

That was barely a walk at all.   He was a light-heavyweight about to collapse.

I strained my lower back on Saturday, have put heat on it consistently and can still hardly move.  No way that was a back injury given the way he got up.

The biggest tell is also when he got up and stumbled there was a lot of head shaking and unsteady side-side movement - notably lacking was any reaching for his back at all - has anyone in hstory who ever hurt or threw out their back not reached and put their hands on their back involuntarily

Every player in the NFL misses the rest of the game and then in protocol and maybe miss next game too. But Tua back on the field faster than you can get a pizza delivered

This argument kills me, and I'm not saying that you're making it.  The argument is apparently that it wasn't a head injury, just a spine injury, nothing to worry about there.  What kind of injury to your spine renders your legs too weak to stand or walk?

If I was taking care of a patient in the ER who came in with a back injury from a football game that was bad enough that he was left temporarily unable to walk, that patient would be heading for CT and MRI to rule out a spinal cord injury.  In this case it's clear Tua and the Dolphins are lying, it was clearly a head injury from watching the replay, but let's just say that Tua is being honest here for a minute.  Can you imagine the conversation with the unaffiliated neurotrauma specialist in the locker room;

Tua;  "Hey doc, I hurt my back really bad and my legs didn't work for a bit.  Nothing to worry about there.  It's not my brain that's injured, it's just my spinal cord."

Doctor;  "We'll that's a whole 'nother story!  Back into the game with you then!  I was worried you had something serious like a concussion."

Tua;  "Gee thanks Doc!  Who needs a stupid old spinal cord anyways!"

Bates was actually the most scary for me when I seen him kneeling down. His face was so red and he looked so out of it. I thought it was just heat and I actually told my dad it looked like he was about to pass out.

I have no proof of this, but I still think it was the heat. Strenuous exercise in that heat will give you a headache, make you dizzy and disoriented. Put that all together and they have to put him on the protocol.

And somehow Tua ain't.

Honestly though, as somebody who had a terrible back problem at one point in my life, the explanation made perfect sense once I heard it. It's nerve pain, and it really can be severe enough to just totally buckle you like that

Back pain sucks, no argument there.  When your back was bad could you have sat up from lying back on the ground like he did and then stand up and start walking with your back in spasm?  My wife has had back issues and when it is bad it is the changing of body position that kills her, from lying to sitting, from sitting to standing, that's when it's the most painful.   I just don't think the video looks like a back injury to me.

I hope your back stays healthy...

The fact that he was red and sweating was a good sign for heat exhaustion.  When they're pasty and dry, that's heat stroke, bad news.

I've had 4 spinal surgeries, two of them when I was still playing ball and I know exactly what you mean.

But I also know exactly what that spasm looks like on a ball field; and it don't look like that.

When those buckle you, you head straight for the ground as fast as you can get there; you don't try to keep standing and fail.

That boy's brain bounced of the back of his skull and I bet my house he's got a hell of a headache right this minute.

I never even thought about it like that.

That's hideously funny.

The way Bates got tossed around like a rag doll on that play makes me think he might have already been concussed prior to that.

Then again, just about everybody on the offensive line looked like they could barely do anything against the Fins there. Did they have Dawkins lined up outside the right tackle there? He didn't even seem to know what the snap was. They left Morris on the left to block Jaelan Phillips, and it went about as well as you might expect. The only guy who looked okay was Saffold, who pulled to the right and didn't have to do anything.

The whole crew on ESPN's Getup show this morning said " No way in Hell was that a back thing." Rex Ryan and Stephen A. Smith went off about it. The NFLPA is def. gonna be on it. I'm willing to bet that given the history of other players that, at some point this season,Tua will again deal with a concussion(s).
