The short answer I believe is they think Cam Lewis can play safety if needed.

 

The longer answer is they are hoping that guys return to the lineup w/o further injuries, they are tight in the cap, they like Cam Lewis, and they may get Benford reps at safety once he returns along with everyone else.

Probably a simple calculation that Lewis and even Neal are better options, knowing the scheme, than any available PS player or washed vet at this point.

 

That being said, how about Josh Thomas over Murray if we're poaching the Cardinals?!?

It is not being neglected. Coach is a DB specialist and knows what talent is on roster more than peanut gallery.

 

And Landon Collins is a LB and Beane knows that.

Because Beane doesn’t panic after one game like some fans do. 
And he certainly isn’t checking PFF

 

His job is to draft and sign players.

 

Mcdermott develops them. 

Johnson finally hits the field and you think they’re gonna throw in the towel after one game? No, they’re going to sit him down in the film room and show where he can get better, then they’re gonna hit the practice field and throw those same looks at him and coach him up to not make the same mistakes. 
 

Draft and develop folks.. Get used to it cause that’s the name of the game once your quarterback gets his payday.

I think it was out of concern of starting 2 Safeties and only having 3 on the roster

Now that we are finally a good team, a lot of people at this forum have become intolerable.

 

Nothing can be discussed ever, because it's just a foolish attack of the mighty Buffalo Bills franchise.

 

I wonder why people like this come to forums like this.  They don't want to discuss anything anyway.

I took at as the OP wants someone to start next to Poyer But the coaches may see it as they have 5 already with Neal and Lewis. But they also view those spots as special teams guys like Johnson and Hamlin were before the injuries. Not just replacing safeties, with Kumerow down and Hyde being hurt, that makes 2 extra special teams roles needing filled, and make it 3 if Poyer doesn’t play. I didn’t fact check but I doubt Hamlin and Johnson started and played special teams but I could be wrong. And rather we like it or not, we know for fact Mcdermott prioritizes special teams play.

Neal did play defense in the preseason.  Because of the extreme heat in Miami, McD didn't want to play him more than on STs.  McD said that in today's presser.  The extreme heat altered a lot of things in that game.
