Any chance they move Poyer to FS and they try the linebacker Bernard at SS? He's tiny but supposedly quick.

Sure.  ?    If everyone else that has been playing DB for the past 3-4 years (such as Johnson, Hamlin, Neal and Lewis) all get hurt, then there is a chance.

He is not “tiny” for a safety.  He is actually bigger than Milano at LB.

If the Bengals season goes sideways Jessie Bates would be interesting if Johnson struggles.  No long term commitment needed.  Somehow they can make it work with the cap.

I definitely trust the FO and coaches with our secondary and think we can make it work with what we have but I do love me some bates. He was a beast at WF (oops thought it was UCF at first lol) and wanted us to nab him back then, he’s got some ball hawking skills like a center fielder. I’d be down with him coming here for the year to win a SB

Agreed. It’s the NFL they don’t just move guys from position to position.LF  basically said the backups have been getting reps and learning for 2-4 years now. I would be surprised if we see a big name S come in. I imagine they will add depth to the PS.

Collins is a coverage liability and one of the key tenants on the Bills D is the safeties be interchangeable so it makes it impossible to know what both will be doing pre snap.

So I guess it makes it pretty unlikely they sign him unless they use him as a better version of Siran Neal.

It’s Poyer, Johnson, Hamlin, and Cam Lewis.

Johnson, Hamlin, and Lewis have been in this system awhile so I see them giving their guys a shot first before considering a different move

I’ve watched JJ Jaquon Johnson for a few years now and I have full confidence in him.

I think he has elite anticipation.

Damar Hamlin has been here two years and I’m not so sure about him. Both are lessor athletes to Poyer and Hyde, but I don’t think it will really matter that much….we’re talking split seconds here…

With the two rookie CB's,  I felt the Hyde/Poyer combo was a big key to stabilizing the secondary this year. Wish they had signed a veteran CB in the off season.

Lets see how they go.  I got faith in the the young guys and Johnson.  Probably a little more conservative than they would want to be.  Benefit of being a deep roster.  Bills still favored in Miami.

Bernard at 6'1" in not small for a safety and tackles well which is required in Bills defense but he is too small; for role Poyer does; Poyer sometimes matches up with offense linemen occupying them so other defense linemen are free.  If he plays safety he would be better in Hyde's role.

Lol what? Bernard too small for safety? He's 30lbs bigger than Poyer.
