Much more likely IMO that Bills' doctors told him it's major and he's trying to get a second opinion because he doesn't want to be out for the year. My totally instinctive but **completely** baseless gut reaction is that he received some significant bad news. 1 Quote

MPL Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 (edited) That does it—flex the game to tonight. No one wants to watch Trubisky vs. Brisset, and I need an immediate resolution to the Bills' injury questions, dang it! Edited September 22, 2022 by MPL Quote

He went to the hospital and was examined by doctors. He then, no doubt, had those results reviewed by the Bills staff. Now he is going for another opinion. None of us know what any of these people have said about his injury. Anything more than that right now is speculation. Speculation, yes, but why do players typically get second opinions? I can recall zero times when it was reported that a player got a good report from team doctors and then wanted to get a second opinion. It's always the reverse. 2 minutes ago, Nextmanup said: The fact that he's getting a second opinion is nothing but BAD NEWS for Bills fans. That's just common sense. The level of denial from Bills fans in this thread is both cute and embarrassing. I'll delete my account if Hyde is getting a second opinion because he got a good report and just wants to double check it, lol 1 1 1 Quote

If it's close to a career threatening decision he should call it quits and retire to his beautiful home in San Diego(I believe) with his health and the bags of money. Won't be any surprise if they get a lot of attrition on defense in the next 18 months..........it's really hard to keep a defense healthy and together for as long as this back 7..........that's why Seattle won a SB as the youngest team in the NFL and the defense was shot just a few years later. Hopefully they can get everyone thru this season after all or at least the young backups continue to step up. Yea after this news I am not thinking about games or even seasons for Hyde. I am thinking career. He owes nobody anything. He had a neck issue in camp, another one here from a seemingly inoccuous incident. If the Doctors tell Micah Hyde it might be time to hang them up he should hang them up. In the meantime, even if it doesn't come to that, Jaquan Johnson now has an audition for a contract extension. I would expect Poyer to play more centre field and Johnson to go mainly into Poyer's normal role in the box. 1 Quote

We highly recommend getting a second opinion on an injury if: - Surgery is required - Your injury lasts more than two weeks - Your rehab seems questionable Remember we’re here to help you get healed and get back on the field. Contact your Player Director with any questions Also, how the heck is this all that's written about second opinions on the NFLPA Active Player website?!?!? Quote
MiltonWaddams Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 There is something to consider in that he may have had an analysis at the hospital and by the Bills med staff but still felt more discomfort than he liked. Because of the long-term impact of neck injuries, he and his agent may have determined that it would be prudent to seek another doctor, a specialist at that, to examine him as well. As a former paid athlete, I cannot see how that would be construed as anything more than taking care of oneself. We only have one body to live this life with. Better use it wisely. 1 1 Quote

I would expect Poyer to play more centre field and Johnson to go mainly into Poyer's normal role in the box. Me too on the career thing. I didn’t want to say it, but that’s where I’m at. There was mention of Eichel up thread. The Eichel situation is one that arose from the desire of the Sabres to protect the player by refusing a risky surgery. The Bills—before and during the Pegula ownership—historically have been very careful about spinal issues. Derrick Burroughs was retired early. Kevin Everett’s ability to ambulate, and maybe his life, was saved by drills to prepare for his exactly his type of injury. Eric Wood left early. And Dane Jackson was taken from the field on a board and an ambulance in an abundance of caution a few hours before he walked out of ECMC. I have a hard time believing that the local docs gave Hyde’s neck injury a good prognosis with which he disagrees. I hope I’m wrong, for his sake. (And I suppose it could very well be that he wants a second set of eyes on the issue given his own history and the fact that he has a family to raise.) But, from a football perspective, the situation is concerning. Edited September 22, 2022 by SectionC3 Quote

I would say so…I’ve also seen people jumping to the conclusion that it is season or career ending. I’m not so sure about that, considering McDermott said he avoided major injury. However, we could be looking at seeing Jaquan Johnson for a few weeks. There are worse players that you could put on the field as a backup safety Quote

For one quarter against a soft defense. The Bills have a ferocious pass rush, and Frazier will have the D backs in position to make plays, rookies or not. 2 Quote

Likely was told he needs surgery of some sort...and wants confirmation. Doesn't want to miss season or significant time. Quote
