Titans are still interested, Eagles are still interested and Jacksonville may be interested as it sounds like Fred Taylor is out for the season. A third round pick or a player and a 6th or 7th round pick in return is not out of the question. Hold onto TH for awhile longer and see what team becomes the most desperate for a RB.

As you can see by the Jacksonville blurb on this mornings front page, the pressure is mounting. Henry is being mentioned quite frequently now, albeit by the press. Still, the concerns of RB depth for several teams is very real.

 

I realize trading away Henry may create a legit concern with our own RB depth but the Bills are at the point of no return with Henry. In reality, he can't help on Special teams and clearly wasn't the same player early last season, tripping all over himself in key situations. The poor attitude is just the last draw.

 

McGahee is our starter and the Bills will probably keep an eye out for a camp cut of a Vet if Shaud Williams, the rookie Gates and the recently aquired Lee are less than impressive.

I would not have accepted a 5th for Henry, either, for one reason. Even if he walks, the Bills will recieve a compensatory pick in the 2007 draft based upon the contract he signs and his performance during the 2006 season. There's a very good chance that this pick will at least match the 5th that they were offered and its not unthinkable that it could be as high as a late 3rd if Henry were to have a big year in 2006.

Man, the only "personal" issue you have with Travis is deluding yourself by thinking he's a pedo!  You have the rest of this board think that he lives in Neverland Ranch and is in court these days!!!   

 

He's admitted to having relations with a minor but he has no history of it.  Your hate has blinded you to this fact.  Please direct your anger to a more appopriate source such as the Catholic Church!  It will do more good there. 

 

He's played with injuries in case you've forgotten and was the team MVP more than once.  Henry has bitched and moaned since the team was unable to get a deal done, no one denies that but to claim he had an attitude problem or became a cancer during the season is pretty stupid.  He was a man about the whole thing until his agent has gotten into his ear since that debacle vs. the Stillers.

 

And it is within TD's right get a deal better than you could possibly imagine.  Our front office should be the one to take advantage of other franchises foolish mistakes so that we may prosper.  If TD just out right released him, WNY would be all over his ass and justifiably so.

And you need to do much of the same. You are letting the fact that you are a fan cloud your ability to reason and make a sound judgement wrt this second string, second rate running back.

Tell me, what happened on draft day? Where were the offers for this highly desired stud athlete? Oh, they didn't exist? Must have been a fluke, right?

Now, another article appears, this one about Jax and Fred Taylor, and many are off on another tangent about the huge offers we will get for Travis. You know what, maybe you are right, but you are batting zero thus far.

So is TD at trying to salvage any value for this sub-par player who openly wants OUT of Buffalo, but I do admire the fact that he is trying.

excuse me here if already posted, but TD does hold the cards on this because no matter the value for TH, if he does not show up (if untraded) to the Bills he is killing his prospects of going anywhere in the next year. Meaning if he wants out of Buffalo, he better show up to prove it. The longer he acts like a child and runs from the situation, the less teams will want him on their team. Grow up Travis

Time for Jags to find an upgrade at RB

The whispers that the Jaguars have underestimated the severity of Fred Taylor's knee injury are growing into roars. The Nashville Tennessean is reporting that Jacksonville offensive coordinator Carl Smith has indicated Taylor, 29, may be forced to miss the upcoming season.

 

Ouch. Say goodbye to those playoff hopes.

 

Without Taylor, Jacksonville's offense is dead for two reasons: The passing game isn't near ready to carry the load and the Jags have shoddy depth behind Taylor. LaBrandon Toefield is a third-down back, and not a very good one. Greg Jones doesn't possess the necessary explosiveness and shiftiness to be productive.

 

With Taylor healthy, the Jags are a Super Bowl contender. Without him, they are a 6-10 team.

 

The Jags must make a move. Even if Jack Del Rio is fairly confident Taylor will be ready, the Jags should still make a move. This season is too important.

 

The fans are counting on the franchise returning to the playoffs for the first time since 1999. In a twist of irony, the team Jacksonville should call is the team responsible for the Jags landing Taylor -- the Buffalo Bills. The Jags need to send Buffalo a high pick in next year's draft to acquire running back Travis Henry. The move makes sense for both sides. The Bills, who already have a stud back in Willis McGahee, have been shopping Henry since the offseason started and seem determined to ship him out.

 

Maybe the Jags could land Henry, 27, with a third-round pick. If not, they should offer a second-rounder. After a good season, it would be a late pick in the round anyway. Buffalo would likely bite.

 

The Jags could make a run at Indianapolis' Edgerrin James or Seattle's Shaun Alexander, but it's unlikely the Colts would trade Edge to a divisional rival and the Seahawks would want a large chunk of premium draft picks. Plus, both backs are too expensive.

 

The Jags have had good luck trading with Buffalo. By sending quarterback Rob Johnson to the Bills back in 1997, Jacksonville received Buffalo's first-round pick (ninth overall) and selected Taylor.

 

The Henry deal would be productive in the short term, keeping Jacksonville's shot at a championship season alive. However, the trade has more benefit to Jacksonville in the long term. Henry's only fault is that he's not McGahee, one of the top rising talents in the league.

 

Before losing his job last year, Henry was coming off two seasons in which he rushed for a combined 2,794 yards and 23 touchdowns. He's an elite back. And he has significantly less mileage than Taylor.

 

Taylor's career attempts (1,637) are right in line with backs like Priest Holmes (1,615) and Stephen Davis (1,725). What do all three of these backs have in common? They are breaking down. Holmes missed eight games last season and Davis missed 14.

 

Backs like Curtis Martin (3,298 career carries) that can still be highly productive despite the extreme wear-and-tear are rare. And the odds of a massive Martin breakdown grow by the carry. Meanwhile, Henry's tread has a lot of life left. He has logged 963 career carries in the NFL. That's in line with the league's top crop of fresh backs like Deuce McAllister (961) and Clinton Portis (906).

 

The bottom line is this. Taylor is an old 29. Henry is a young 27. Henry could have his best days ahead of him. Taylor is clearly on the downside of his career.

 

Here's what the Jags should do. Trade for Henry while he's still a bargain to ensure Byron Leftwich has a strong running game around him. Hang on to Taylor for a year, let him heal up and then trade him for a draft pick after the season to help make up for the pick lost in the Henry deal.

Tennessee wants Henry for a fifth round pick. For that price Buffalo is better off waiting for something to happen to another team's starter in training camp. They would be losing very little if a deal can't get done later, and there is a chance the price for Henry could go up to a more reasonable third round pick.

Updating an ongoing storyline, Bart Hubbuch, reports for the Sporting News, the Jacksonville Jaguars are actively pursuing a veteran running back given the uncertain status around RB Fred Taylor's (knee) availability for the start of the 2005 season. As reported earlier, the surgery Taylor had on his knee was worse than anticipated and Taylor hasn't participated in any of the offseason programs that involve team drills. As noted previously, Taylor's availability for the start of training camp and perhaps the opening of the regular season appears to be in question

C'moooon Titans, step up to the pump! It will only hurt for a minute. Me personally, I'd be happy with TE Erron Kinney and a late round draft pick. I think that the Titans would make a better trade partner for us than the Jaguars. Either way we're in a much better position to deal now. Looks like Donahoe made the right call again. Go Bills!

I don't think that you can really classify the Titans as a legitament threat to be a play-off team, so I'm not too worried about them. Even outside of that, we have to be more concern about us as a team and the fortification of making the post season. Right now the TE position should be a concern for us and if we can get a proven blocking TE then this should be a priority. Furthermore, I think it's quite evident that Henry has to go. He played college ball for Tennessee and it would make good sense for that organization to make a trade for a fan favorite. I would expect them to be willing to pay a little bit better than the next franchise for Henry's services.
