Report: Steelers fear that DPOY T.J. Watt tore his pec in win over Bengals

Saw it when it happened - pretty sure Watt knew that was exactly what happened.

That was a big win for Pittsburgh, but boy it could end up being costly as they had a number of big injuries at key positions.

That was a great, wacky game.  And yeah, he knew it immediately. He pointed to it as he walked off the field and went straight to locker room

and anyone who doesn’t appreciate Reid Ferguson should watch that game replay.

I missed the ending.  Felt like the refs were doing everything they could to hand it to the Bengals, was very surprised when I checked the score.

This injury combined with the game result certainly works to the Bills’ (and other AFC contenders’) benefit.  Cinci saddled with an early AFC loss (at home) and Pittsburgh losing their best player.

Still, I do hate to see great players get hurt.

That game quite literally proved the importance of a long snapper. The Bengals lost theirs and their all-world kicker missed a PAT and a chip shot FG, both of which would have won the game.

Please excuse the novice question here, but this puzzled me last night during the Steelers vs Bengals game:

I know the Bengals long snapper was injured and they used (I think) a TE to snap for the field goals, which didn't go so well and negatively impacted the kicking operation.  So, my question is, why did they not just use their Center to snap on special teams instead of the TE?  Surely that would have been a better option?

Thanks in advance. 👍

I’ll be the one to say it. Bills play Steelers in less than a month.

Tough news for them, but good news for us. Wishing him and Najee a speedy 5 week recovery!

it seems you may be overstating the “surely” part or they probably would’ve done it

Long snapping is a skill.  Just because you're a center it doesn't mean you can do it.

Maybe so, I was wondering was there a rule I wasn't aware of that prevented them using the center.  Plus a couple of the TE's snaps were so poor (high) I thought they would have tried another option.

Back to your thought, and I'm coming at this from a perspective of someone who has only snapped a ball in my back garden to an 8 year old! ... is long snapping so very different than what a center does on offence? (serious question)

If you were Chris Spielman, you'd just play through it, and not tell anyone!

Man, i loved that guy!

Dude gets injured pulling off one guys helmet and then trying to behead the QB.  Tears his juiced up pec.

Another Watt bro sidelined with pec injury (his bro bro is out with a bunch of torn bits as well).  Nothing to see here NFLPA and NFL!

Ancillary point— when the snap was bad, the holder needed to just fall on the ball. That is the whole point of kicking on 3rd down in that situation.

Long Snapper is a specialist, just like kickers and punters. It's like asking a kicker to Punt, completely different mechanics.

They will have another long snapper signed by Sunday if theirs will be out for any given time.

My opinion of the Watts was definitely influenced by the offseason of Twitter trolling of our fanbase when JJ was a free agent.
