2022 MVP: Mahomes wins. Allen gets 1 vote? (42 TDs, 19 TOs, 315 YPG & 63.3%% Comp %--EOY talk 54+)

The Most Valuable Player award should be renamed the QB of the Best Team in the NFL award. That's who it goes to every year. By the meaning of the award no chance Hurts should win. There's a much better case to be made for Allen, Mahomes, Burrow, even Lamar Jackson, Tyreek Hill, and AJ Brown to name a few others. But Hurts wins it by default unless he stumbles.

Allen has way more turnovers. He would need to really pull away in yards and TDs, and have Hurts turn it over a few more times to really have a chance.

It's stupid to penalize Allen and Mahomes for turnovers. The same style of play that allows them to carry undertalented offenses with below average running games also causes them to turn the ball over more than average. You can't have one without the other. Hurts has the best running game in the league and two #1 WRs and arguably the best OL in the league. He doesn't have to take chances. But I get it, the MVP voters don't think that hard about it.

I don't get the arguments that the MVP is Hurts' to lose...

Passing Yards/Total Yards:

Allen - 3857/4562

Hurts - 3472/4309

Touchdowns/ Total TDs:

Allen - 30/36

Hurts - 22/35

Completion %:

Allen - 63.7 (w/ 85 more passing attempts)

Hurts - 67.3

You forgot to list turnovers and rushing yards. Having one loss as well doesnt hurt Hurts...  MVP is going to Hurts!

Hurts has taken over Lamar's spot as the new dual threat sports media darling.

You are preaching to the choir here. There is a reason that Allen and Mahomes have the same number of INTs. It’s because they have a lot more attempts and have to carry their teams on their back. Hurts does deep sideline routes, play action crosses to AJ Brown, and everything else is underneath. He makes very low risk throws.

Not to mention Hurts has over 100 less attempts than Mahomes. Eagles shelter him, and it works. But he isn’t the actual most valuable player to their team.

Yup, stats alone are just numbers without proper context!

Patrick Mahomes -350

Josh Allen +550

Joe Burrow +550

Jalen Hurts +700

Just like that Mahomes is now the leader.

With Hurts hurt, if Josh wins out, I think it is his reward to lose.

Not so fast!

If he misses a couple games, he could lose out on it.

Josh Allen for MVP

  • No QB can outrun corners like Josh Allen
  • No QB can run over linebackers like Josh Allen
  • No QB can stiff arm defensive linemen to the ground like Josh Allen
  • No QB can hurdle defenders for first downs like Josh Allen
  • No QB can move the pile like Josh Allen
  • No QB can superman over the pile for a touchdown like Josh Allen
  • No QB can throw a deep ball over the top like Josh Allen
  • No QB can jump out of bounds and drop dimes while in mid air like Josh Allen
  • No QB can toss lasers anywhere on the field at anytime from any body position like Josh Allen

And for those who might say, well my QB can do this better or that better, when you add it all up, no QB checks all of the above boxes like Josh Allen.

Josh Allen is more than elite.

Josh Allen is an alien cyborg sent from the future to punish the souls of his enemies.

Through 14 games Josh Allen has 3857 yard passing (5th), 30 passing touchdowns (2nd), 6 rushing touchdowns (3rd among QBs), 705 rushing yards (4th among QBs), and, for your MVP consideration:

Josh Allen has 4562 total yards and 36 total touchdowns on the AFC's number one team, the Buffalo Bills.

And no player means more to his football team or more to his community than Josh Allen.

Ironically, the most persuasive argument for Allen as MVP is the media's (and fans') early-season gushing over the "elite weapons" Allen has. Only now are a (very) few commentators beginning to realize that, aside from Diggs, Morse and Dawkins, the players around Allen are average at best. Reminds me of OJ Simpson being the entire Bills offense back in the day.

It's time for the NFL to introduce new awards. I'm tired of seeing QBs get MVP. Let's split it up. The Oscars do it that way.

"The Most Valuable Player for QBs goes to...."

"The Most Valuable Player for RBs goes to....."

"The Most Valuable Player for WRs goes to...."

And so on. It's time for the MVP to be in categories. NFL and the fans all win in this.

Josh isn't winning MVP. It is Hurts or Mahomes.

Probably.

But that doesn't mean they should.

The actual thought process when all statistics are relatively similar among the candidates (as they are right now... and Josh may close that gap more) is how much of a drop there would be for the team if that player were taken away.

If that's the benchmark, Josh wins.

I don't think there is enough time for the narrative to switch tbh. He'd have to torch the Bengals on national TV to have a shot I think. Nobody is watching Bills - Bears or Bills - Patriots nationally.

Ummm... it's not Joe Schmoe who votes for MVP. It's guys who pay attention across the league, like Peter King, who is one of the voters. Here's what he just said in MMQB:

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/12/19/chandler-jones-raiders-immaculate-reception-peter-king-fmia-week-15/

This is by far the toughest week I’ve had in the divining of the MVP. The top three could be in any order, and number four could be number one by season’s end. My list:

Jalen Hurts, QB, Philadelphia (13-1). Takes what the D gives him, and on Sunday in Chicago, the D gave him the run. Hurts ran for three scores, and the Eagles, two games clear of the NFL field this morning, won by five.

Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City (11-3). Four more TD throws and 477 more passing yards than anyone in the game, and his 87.8-percent completion rate Sunday is the best in history for a passer with more than 40 attempts in a game. “If he’s not the MVP, I don’t know who is,” Andy Reid told me. “He took a whole new group of [receivers] and got them ready to win. Think about it. Who are we going to in the passing game? [Travis] Kelce. Now [Mecole] Hardman’s hurt. Then who? They’re all new. Patrick worked all off-season to get those guys ready and look at the results.”

Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo (11-3). Played a masterful game Saturday night, coming back from eight points down in the fourth quarter as Buffalo basically ended the race in the AFC East by beating Miami. Allen has a great sense of when to hang in the pocket and when to scramble.

I know what Peter King thinks and he isn't wrong. But even among national writers the narrative matters.

Name another QB in the MVP race that has already played 10 games against teams that are currently .500 or better and have went 7-3 in those games. The 3 losses obviously by a total of 8 points.

He's the best player in football, playing on an offense that has no real identity and has very average players outside of Diggs. He has passed or rushed for 36 out of the 42 TDs(85.7%) the offense has scored this year and has 4,562 total yards out of the offenses 5,608(81.3%).

Oscar also gives an award for the Best Picture ....and that comes from best acting, best direction, best screen play,  best editing, best sound track etc.

That's where the Super Bowl title comes in. And Super Bowl MVP.

I am sure that that is all that Josh Allen cares about that being said, is there really another dominant team like ours that relies so much on their QB like we do people might argue Mahomes but it’s definitely between those two
