It's the end for him there.  He is a good football coach, but Tom Brady made him the best ever.

Hard disagree on this one.  People like to just remember the most recent.  But the early days of the Pats, Tom was a game manager with scrubs for offensive weapons to work with and they still won 3 Super Bowls in 4 years.

BB took a weak and depleted roster and a noodle arm rookie QB and got them to the playoffs and had them contending for the divisional crown in a season they weren’t even supposed to be a .500 team.

BB is a terrible GM lately, there is no hiding from the draft record the past 5 seasons.  But the dude is probably the greatest coach to ever live.

BB and Tom elevated each other’s careers.  One wasn’t only the result of the other.

People always want to give just one of them credit, which is puzzling.  They are both the GOATS and both have proven it over and over again respectively.

Pats***

Let us not forget that BB had to bend the rules and apologize later when he broke them unnoticed.

While this is all true...drafting a generational QB in the 6th round will boost a coach and Belicheck is sub 500 without Tom...it shouldn't denigrate Belicheat as a coach.

- His plan/defense won SB25 for the Giants.

- His Browns won a playoff game (it was almost 30 years before that happened again)

- He beat the Bills in that stupid wind game.  The Pats had no business doing that.

- He got the Pats to the playoffs with a rookie Mac Jones.

He's a cheater and he was helped by Tommy, but he is still a great coach.

Thank God he is a terrible GM (and I mean that literally).

People still think that. We had 378 yards in 19 minutes of possession. a point per minute of possession.  We win if we had a FG kicker.

The Boston media us like the classic hit "Turn Turn Turn"

Every year the Patriots are horrible, haven't done enough in the off season, Doomed (this is during the successful years)

Lose a few games and go 2-2 after 4: Doomed.  Then they win and are in contention and the Boston Media always knew that Belly Cheat was a Genius and the Patriots QB is the Best Ever

Compare and contrast early season coverage last season to mid season.

Early season Belicheck was finally done and the Pats were a ***** show

Mid season Mac Jones was the greatest rookie QB ever and the Pats were unstoppable.

I expect media is the same everywhere but the Boston media seems to take it to an extreme

All big market media are a lot more critical than their counterparts from the smaller regions.

Because it is true.  We had beat the Giants earlier in the year, on the road, without Kelly.  We had just obliterated the Raiders.  The offense was the best it ever was.  We only got 19 minutes of possession because the Giants knew we were better than them and they wanted to shorten the game.  Belicheat's defense won the game for them because the Giants got stops.

Not counting a kneel down at the end of the 1st half, the Bills had 10 drives.

- 1 FG

- 1 FG Miss

- 2 TD

- 6 punts

For comparison, I just looked it up.  In the previous playoff games, we punted 1 time in scoring 44 points against Miami and then we punted 2 times in scoring 51 points against the Raiders after the game was already essentially over.  3 total punts and only 1 first team punt in the playoffs before the SB.

I don't see this as the media souring on him.

They're just reporting a situation which doesn't look great and now hasn't for a couple of years. This is a rational response to what's going on.

Belichick has earned a lot of respect and a lot of latitude, but this is their third year post-Brady and things don't look good.

There were several reasons the Bills lost that game. Norwood is not the first of those reasons IMO. No need to resurrect this debate though.

If not for Belichick, Tom Brady is working in Admissions at U of M instead of being the GOAT married to a super model richer than he is. He never would have played a down in the NFL. Probably wouldn't have even been invited to a camp. He's the greatest coach the game has ever seen and it's not even close.

Bruce causes a sack fumble in EZ, and not safety we win by 5, likely more as Gmen would have needed more passing late.

or the 6 times we did not convert a 3rd down and had to punt.  Don't blame the defense for the whole failure.

Ideally, but at some point he's going to realize it's not worth it and/or more likely, Kraft will.  The atrocious drafting and development of players can't be overlooked and I have no doubt he sees what's going on in Tampa Bay.

Doc, with you’re medical knowledge should know that having a dream and a plan if misery is the best medicine for Bills fans everywhere.  I clamor for the 90s hapless patriots mulling in the abyss with those horrendous red and white unis.

Cant a boy dream Doc?

I know you’re speaking in reality vs. my longing for sweet vengeance. Kraft will probably pull the trigger after next year if he has two more bad years.  He’ll give him some Consulting position to save face like they just did in Tampa with Arians (living here there are a lot of raised eyebrows how that’s going to workout).  Too many chefs in the kitchen.

Everyone wondering why he has two ex head coaches as his offensive assistants, my take is that if the year starts out badly he can resign (cut and run) and Patricia/ Judge become head coach and OC

Posted

Bill Belichick is a great coach. He used to be a great coach with great assistants (Nick Caserio, Dante Scarnnecchia, Josh McDaniels) and great players (Tom Brady, etc.).  Even his shadow and master of the dark arts Ernie Adams is gone.

For whatever reason, for all his talent and experience, he can't develop or hire good assistants. His success rate in the draft is abysmal.

He coaches the hell out of what he's got, and finds a few gems in rounds 4-7. But the gist of the article is, coaching the hell out of what he's got is the bare minimum, and it's not good enough.

I think this is article is decent Boston sports reporters trying to bring spoiled Pats fans down to earth. Much more a piece about how soon, Bill is going to hang them up and the glory days will be well and truly dead. But it might be more a "pull the plug" type exit for Bill rather than riding off into the sunset with a last Lombardi.

After they don't make the playoffs this year, he'll be politely asked to retire.

I think they might be a 4-13 team this year…if they get blown out by Miami in week 1, watch out.

Perhaps they're souring on him because the gap has been too long. Enough time has passed so that the default response to any criticism can't be "he just took us to a Super Bowl, cram it." Now they have the time to think about why he's considered an all time coach.

If he is/was such a great coach, why did he develop the most sophisticated practice spying system ever seen? Why were only his teams known league-wide for stealing playbooks? Why was his Super Bowl spying tape so egregious it had to be destroyed? Why did only his QB get caught manipulating balls? Why was only his team responsible for having substitutions/formations made illegal the next season? Why would his protégé Josh McDaniels be accused by his own players of doing the same cheating when he got his own head coaching position in Denver? Why can none of his coaching tree win without the cheating nectar and they always come back?

The man was raised on football. He was a ball boy growing up. He has vast football knowledge. But if all that football acumen wasn't enough for him to believe he could win with, then why should it count for you? And if it does, do you go line by line redacting the scandal years and add up the remainder? This goat talk is fit for the politics section of the board at this point.
