eball Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 So, even accounting for Star, Daryl Williams, and OJ Howard, the Bills' dead cap for 2022 is just over 22M...which is below the league average of 26M. Something else not to get worked up about. Carry on. 5 1 1 3 Quote

It's no big deal and it's looking it will be much lower next season. He's pretty good at his job! 1 Quote

I was actually a bit shocked, at the same time as he was giving interviews about being "cap constrained" in what they can do, that the Beane-meister went ahead and cut Star Lotulelei and Darryl Williams. But thinking about it more, I think he may have had a strategy of taking all the cap lumps for underperforming players this season to clear the deck for next year when Josh's cap hit jumps. This is obviously far too simplistic way of looking at it, but the impact of Josh salary jumping from $16 to $39M would be countered by the dead cap falling from $22M to a much lower number. So this is obviously the better year to take the dead cap hits on the chin. 1 2 Quote

Starr Almighty Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 Still can't believe we cut Star. The team still has not been able to replace that elite level of laziness to date. 1 5 Quote

Allen2D̶i̶g̶g̶s̶TBD Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 I don't mind dead cap hits for players that weren't producing. It sends a message to the team that we will keep the best 53 players regardless of your contract or draft status. 4 Quote

And, Star's was high because the Covid opt year pushed the contract out a year. Beane structures the contracts excellently. 1 Quote

BADOLBILZ Posted September 1, 2022 Posted September 1, 2022 (edited) Of course they don't have much dead cap............they've spent $275M in LIVE cash this season to build their SB-favorito roster.........which is the 3rd most actual money spent in the entire NFL behind the Cleveland guaranteed-Watsons and the cash rich LA Rams that people like you have been insisting would have to gut their roster for going on 5 years now. If the Bills have a big dead money issue related to recent moves it's going to be in future years, not this one. This thread is just ignorance about how the salary cap works at it's finest.
