Kickers do NOT want to play for good teams. They want to make $2M-$4M a year in complete obscurity without anyone noticing for as long as possible and they never want to be the cause of a loss anyone cares about. They especially like indoor stadiums where they can rack up stats.

What does he want?

I'll answer my own question since that GIF disturbs me.

His salary was $2.25M.  He previously signed a contract for 3 year, $7M

So presumably, he wants something like that.

Something I hadn't realized about Martin is that when he was with Detroit, he both punted and kicked off.

He didn't kick off the last 2 years in Denver

hes going to weigh his options before deciding is roughly the opposite of news, right?

What exactly are the myriad of options here? Punt and get paid or not punt and not get paid. Is there another complicating factor I'm missing? I guess maybe other teams with punters could be vying for his services? Or at least his representation wants it to seem that way so the Bills don't get silly with the hometown discount angle. I grew up on Grand Island too, you'd have to pay me more to go back. Especially in the winter.

Yeah. I don’t know if the Bills want to spend nearly $3 million in cap on punters. They’ve blown close to half a million the last week with cuts. Signing a 2+ million punter might not happen.

It's good to want. If there's nobody else out there offering that much money then it's not available. Who at this point is LOOKING to increase their punter spending other than Buffalo? Maybe Indianapolis? There are also multiple punters out there who are roughly equivalent in my eye. Do you want to get paid this season or no?

Kern is better than at least half the punters in the league. I’m sure multiple teams with punters have contacted him. He also might not want to punt in poor weather.

"Weighing options"... He may be good, but I'm starting to think I would rather have someone that REALLY wants to be part of the Bills over someone that has to think about it. 🤔. Next please.😉

Are we still doing this? Brian Moorman really wants to be here. Jake Schum does too. I’d rather have someone good than someone that “wants to be here.” Give me the guy that was washed up 9 years ago instead of the recent Pro Bowler that wants to see his market value before committing. That makes sense…

The bolded is clouding your judgement. The teams almost certainly don’t have all of the available guys as “roughly equivalent.” Kern is almost certainly the top rated. Martin is probably next. There are other factors that go into which guy you sign but they aren’t all interchangeable.

BSF choice is old school Josh Allen is our Buffalo Bills punter the best athlete on the team no reason he can’t punt. The punter is a waste of a roster spot and cap space especially in today’s NFL football. I don’t even want keep a kicker either same deal. Also too many coaches we don’t need that many assistant to the assistant coaches for the Bills either no wonder we have PSL’s coming. I know someone has to get the Bills coaches coffee. Coaches were better back in the day a cigarette, the coaches got there own coffee from Mr. Coffee and football decisions were made. My goodness I miss Buffalo sports back than it was smaller we all sat together as Bills fans in a 80,000 plus football stadium no luxury boxes or PSL’s that divide fans not bring them together. Buffalo Bisons games at the old War Memorial Stadium for free or no more than $5.

I want to say something else the end of minor league baseball as we know them now is coming with the players unions that means more money for tickets to the fans which will mean less fans going to the minor league ballpark which will further lessen the Bisons crowds. Buffalo fans aren’t paying $1,000 PSL’s for the Bills nor are Bisons fans paying $40 to $50 a ticket to go to a game either. These oh give the players more where do you think the owners are going to pass the extra costs too? Think I know that is hard for some fans. I am saying the end of sports as we know is coming. Sports are in a dangerous times the owners are going from a working class blue collar fans business model to a professional upper class white collar fans business model we will see how turns out? Going union for minor league baseball is going to cost more cities baseball teams and cities are going to be holding the bag with a baseball stadium with no baseball team in it if the city isn’t able to attain a Independent baseball team that doesn’t fall under MLB union model good luck. Remember minor leagues were never really affected by player strikes at the major league level now we will be. Buffalo might end up in the American Association again that is back as a Independent Baseball League this time with teams like the Chicago Dogs, Milwaukee Milkman and Kansas City Monarchs. You try out for the team and they have other real jobs like the Buffalo Bandits NLL players.

Minor league baseball the IL isn’t like the NFL or NHL with unlimited television money. I hope I am wrong about everything but the costs are going up. Also the Buffalo fan that justifies everything no matter what the costs well BSF just watch on television or streaming well that is going up to but notice our income isn’t keeping up with these sports leagues players money desires and owners public money for stadium fantasies in my opinion. Go Bills! Go Bisons! Let’s Go Buffalo

Wonder if Kern is trying to squeeze them for $$$ knowing they are punter-less at the current moment?

If he is, he's dumb.  There are other punters out there and he could be without a job.  He might be contemplating retirement.

I think he may be contemplating retirement... i just dont think he wants to go to just any team. It would have to be the right scenario. Thankfully i think we may be perfect seeing as he is from Buffalo area and likely has family in area. And the fact that we are a superbowl contender.

Never heard about passes from left handed QBs being harder to catch.

I'd say that balls thrown by lefty QBs are caught by players of the same team, who practice daily with that same QB.

Punt returners mostly catch balls from righty punters who produce a clockwise spin, so when they face a week where they have to catch from a left footed punter who imparts a counterclockwise spin, it's different from their normal.  Also the greater height and distance of punts vs. throws magnifies the effect.

For further explanation, google "Coriolis effect"  (joking)
