buckeyemike Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 A colleague of mine wanted to know if prostitution was legal in Canada. NOTE: I couldn't care less, but he wants to know for some strange reason. A little extracurricular in Windsor, perhaps? Mike

Yes it is illegal, but the cops pretty much don't care, as long as it stays in the clubs and escort services. This article should shed some light. http://www.sexwork.com/vancouver/research.html PTR
Tux of Borg Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 I've always heard rumors that it was legal in Canada. Some say that the government regulates it, tests the girls, and zones where they can conduct their business. I've always wanted to know how much truth was in that.
Hardy Pyle Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 It's not legal. There are tons of prostitutes but I imagine it's like most big cities, they walk the streets and put ads in the paper, yellow pages, etc. Cops don't really care until they do a crack down. I'm in between places and I live in a red light district. It's the low end stroll...makes for interesting evening sights. The place I live is higher end, just minutes out of the downtown core. Families, yuppies, etc. but girls are out there as early as 7am some days.

But from what I can gather, you would have to be a damn fool to get caught 'cause the only way would be to pick one up off the street instead of calling an "escort" service. At least thats how it goes in Mtl.
