BigPappy Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 not to be rude..... BUT, this has to be one of the dumbest questions ever asked. The dude is an all pro NFL quarterback. There is no way we put more pressure on him as a community than he puts on himself to perform. That is just the way professional athletes are. They don't get to that level without laying a TON of pressure on themselves to be better.... to improve every day, every week, every year. 1 Quote

I mentioned it to my wife that these guys must be so sick of signing autographs by the end of that week. it's a total madhouse. i was told by a security guard that there was a guy who brought his 3 year old multiple times to get a football signed, and had around 15 signatures on it. apparently he dropped the ball, and in all the chaos, someone scooped it up and took off. that had the entire security detail looking for the ball and never found it. Hard to know what the guy's intentions were for that ball, either he was using the 3-year-old for personal gain, or it could be a dad getting as many signatures as he could so his son could someday say, "I was there when these guys signed this ball." Anyway ... can you post a pic of the ball??? Quote

SlimShady'sSpaceForce Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 Jordan Palmer on Bills QB Josh Allen: 'I never saw a player that important to a community' https://buffalonews.com/sports/bills/jordan-palmer-on-bills-qb-josh-allen-i-never-saw-a-player-that-important-to/article_9a05b6c4-22e7-11ed-a019-9f68daaa0109.html Quote People made a big deal about my brother, Carson, and I’ve seen back in his prime, people asking for autographs and people asking for pictures and all that stuff. It’s different in Buffalo,” Jordan Palmer said on the Rich Eisen Show on Monday. Quote “People say and write things like ‘our savior.’ It’s really important to that community the way that I did not see in my time in the NFL. I never saw a player that important to the community whether it was Ochocinco in Cincinnati, Brandon Marshall in Chicago, Matt Forte in Chicago. Quote I’ve never seen a community respond like this, so it’s not just the winning expectations, it’s like what he means to the community. Quote
notwoz Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 This morning I was thinking, and I really hope that I'm not getting ahead of things, that whoever follows Josh Allen is going to be under an incredible amount of pressure. However, I hope that doesn't happen for quite some time. Quote
Ralonzo Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 That quarter of a billion dollars pretty much eliminates every other worldly pressure, so he can take all the football pressure we can give him. 1 Quote
Dablitzkrieg Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 He's physically and mentally tough to deal with it. Keep doubting him I say. He thrives on it. The answer is no. I highly doubt any Joe puts more pressure on him than he does of himself. Quote
Orlando Buffalo Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 Sometimes I refer to him as my Lord and Savior- so I might expect a little too much from him but just by a smidge Quote

I watched his facial expression i. It never changed. I think he dismisses it . He seems as level headed and sincere when he answers questions as any athlete. Yes he is a superstar NFL QB. Has it gone to his head? I don't think so. I think he takes all the adjectives with a grain of salt. If he were being criticized in public he would also try to take it with another grain of salt. I think his character being what it is he will take any negatives or criticisms he does get as action items for what to work on. He'll listen to his coaches more than anything Edited August 24, 2022 by muppy Quote

Agree, if a pro athlete can’t handle external pressure, they’re in the wrong profession. I emphasize external pressure, because I can understand how the pressure an athlete places on himself could be troublesome. I’ve always assumed that pro athletes enjoy the adulation of fans, but doubt they take fans very seriously. If the pressure of social media posts, sports radio callers, and assorted random dudes is too much, the athlete has bigger issues. Fans are crucial to the existence of pro sports, but ultimately athletes play for themselves and teammates. These guys have accomplished a lot with their lives, they aren’t playing for Bill in Tonawanda. I’m not saying they don’t appreciate fans, sharing the joy of sports with them, but I don’t know if they are truly concerned with disappointing us. 1 Quote
BigDingus Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 I mean Palmer isn't wrong... Bills fans do view him as the "savior," and football is ingrained in Buffalo's culture as a city. And with Buffalo being one of the smallest markets, coupled with its heartbreaking franchise legacy, Allen definitely has additional expectations & dreams of the entire region heaped upon him. We can say cliche things like "Allen puts more pressure on himself than anyone!" or "It comes with the territory of being an NFL QB!" but I think most of us who lived through the SB era & suffered through the drought know it's a BIT more complicated than that 😅 Quote
