Your thoughts

Drop Blackshear (to me this is too many running backs on a 53 man roster, especially for a team that passes on like 60% of plays) and Options would be

Sweeney/Morris - add another to the PS

Spector, Giles-Harris to then possibly get waived mid-season for Smith (assuming they like smith here)

Another Olineman - Tenuta or Van Roten - Likely gets waived mid-season for Boettger

So I see it likely being a TE instead of Blackshear. It gets interesting when Smith returns from suspension, and if Boettger returns.  I think Smith will only show up based on an injury, and Boettger will be a while on PUP with a torn achilles week 16 last year so I wouldn't base too many roster decisions around him as there's a pretty decent chance he can't contribute much this year.

No way they cut Blackshear!

Jamarcus Ingram and that Tenuta kid were the two who stuck out in game 2. Tenuta was a draft pick though so maybe he stays.

These cuts will probably be players that the Bills will not want on the practice squad.  There may also be a veteran that knows that he isn't going to make the team and wants to get a chance to catch on elsewhere.  The Bills may also factor in what positions they need to fill for the last preseason game (depends on who they are holding out of the game).  There are more than four obvious cuts on this roster.

My guess would be Cam Lewis as he can play both safety and cb.

I'm hoping Spector and when Smith comes off his suspension, hopefully Spector can take Matekevich's place.

I think he's probably the better choice to backup a LB spot providing more value.

Hopefully they can end up protecting Lewis and McCloud on the P.S.

But I definitely disagree with the idea that Blackshear would "never" make it to the Practice Squad. UDFA RB's who perform well late in Pre-Season games are a dime a dozen. I don't see him being scooped up by another team for their 53 man roster.

I don't consider myself a judge of how our UDFA RB looks relative to other UDFA RB's.  Questions to ask include, how is he doing on ST? and how is he coming along with pass protection?

We at TBD historically pick several players who do well in preseason and obsess about how they'll be snapped up immediately if they're cut.  And usually they aren't.

That roster spot will go to CB Cam Lewis (especially if White is going to miss time), TE Tommy Sweeney (if we're going to run 2 TE sets, we need to carry at least 3 TE's), or DT Brandin Bryant (we carried 11 DL to the 53 last season. Maybe we carry 1 less, but 2 is pushing it IMO).

We carried 11 DL last season because we drafted 2 rookies and didn't want to expose them.  It came at the expense of just Knox and Gilliam at TE IIRC

In the past, McDermott has carried 9-10 DL depending upon the OL situation.

Soooo.  OL now that Ford has been traded.  Who makes it?

From the OP:

Quote

OL - 9

Dawkins (starter)

Bates (starter) - has played center

Morse (starter)

Saffold (starter)

Brown (starter when healthy?)

Quessenberry (current starter)

Doyle (in a boot)

Mancz (some form of injury?) - backup center

Ford

Other OL:

Hart

Capra

Tenuta (2022 6th round pick)

Van Roten

Andersen

Owen

Boettger (PUP, will probably go to IR)

So.....who makes the 53 man roster?

Are we happy with the idea of Brown (not quite healthy) or Doyle as our backup swing tackles?

2 of Blackshear, Hodgins, and Kumerow get cut I think. Spector or Giles-Harris makes the roster and I think you need another DB to start the season.

I think Hodgins will need to show more in Special Teams next week for Kumerow to be cut, especially after ST's performed subpar with his first looks there in the game, and now that Austin has been released.

We kept 6 True WR's and Kumerow for the Core ST's last season. With Austin gone and Stevenson hurt, that leaves Diggs, Davis, McKenzie, Crowder, Shakir, and Hodgins as the obvious 6 True WR's. Hodgins would need to show he can perform ST's up to Kumerow's level to justify keeping just him instead of both.

Blackshear will be released and brought back for the Practice Squad. He's the yearly overachieving UDFA that people work themselves into a frenzy about and think there's no way we can get them back for the PS when it's really not an issue.

Got a feeling Cam Lewis sticks- plays both DB positions. Doubtful 5 RBs kept. Too risky to place Blackhear on the PS. I know I know Taiwan plays teams, but we have plenty of teamers. In my opinion, Jones is not a lock.

Brown was back with the ones at practice today where he belongs with his massive upside.

Q looks like a solid swing tackle .

Yes, he is. He was sat both games to be protected. That wouldn't happen if he were remotely on the bubble. McDermott has never sat players who didn't make the roster. They'd showcase him for other teams.

Same thing happened last season and people tried to make arguments as to why it didn't matter and he was here.

Also, I'll say this until I'm blue on the face, every year people overhype an overachieving UDFA who performs well late in Pre-Season games against other UDFA/PS/Soon to be released players. And every year they say "someone's going to scoop him up". And it doesn't happen. Singletary, Cook, Moss, and Johnson all saw the field before Blackshear in both games and we're only keeping 3 of those 4.

Practically every fanbase in the league has a Blackshear they're overhyping based on Preseason garbage time. He'll be back on the Practice Squad without issue. No one's giving him a spot on their 53 based on 3rd and 4th quarter performances in Preseason for another team at the RB position.

And if someone did, this regime would be thrilled for him having a better opportunity than he would here. They'd probably bring Duke back on the Practice Squad and not miss a second of sleep over it.

Much truth to your rationale. I feel ya…we shall see. At the end of the day, I just want to win the big one. Lets put the best 53 on the roster.

So Dawkins-Saffold-Morse-Bates-Brown.  Quessenberry as swing tackle.  Mancz as backup C/G

Two more, 3 at most.  Who?  I would guess Tommy Doyle unless his injury IRs him.

Hart?

Alec Andersen?

Tenuta was a draft pick, those guys sometimes get more roster shots.

As crazy as it sounds, Hart might make this team lol
