Greg S Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 He may be a Jet but the guy should have been in the HOF a long time ago. (18) Rich Cimini on Twitter: "No Jets practice today, but it’s still a big day for the franchise. At 1 p.m., the @ProFootballHOF announces its three senior finalists for the Class of 2023. Is this Joe Klecko’s year? If he’s one of the three, he’s a virtual shoo-in for Canton. #Jets" / Twitter 1 1 1 Quote
Freddie's Dead Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 (edited) I'll always hate Joe Klecko for the cheap shot he laid on Kelly in Jim's first NFL game in 1986. ***** Joe Klecko. Edited August 17, 2022 by Freddie's Dead 2 5 1 Quote

I remember that but it was the season/home opener in 1986. I also remember Jim fighting with Marty Lyons in a game at Giants Stadium as well. Quote
Royale with Cheese Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 I think the Hall of Fame went to Hall of Very Good now to Hall of Good. I actually agree with Deion. I don't think it was right to go public about it right after the new class, probably should have waited but it's definitely watered down. 1 2 Quote

I'm going to offer an egghead opinion that may seem risible in the context of a football discussion board. Nonetheless, Plato pointed out the way excellence tends to drift towards decadent imitation over time. It's sad that criteria lowers and becomes democratized when it comes to matters of elite excellence, but it's also nearly unavoidable as the testimony of millennia of generations and multiple civilizations attest. 3 1 1 Quote

Greg S Posted August 17, 2022 Author Posted August 17, 2022 Looks like Klecko is getting a gold jacket. (18) Mike Klis on Twitter: "Per source close to situation, 3 senior player nominations went to Ken Riley, Howley, Klecko. Riley was my No. 1 (65 INTs). But come on, Randy Gradishar arguably most decorated. And it's bigger than Gradishar. It's about great Orange Crush D having ZERO players in HOF. #9sports" / Twitter Quote

PetermansRedemption Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 To me, the hall of fame should be a one and done type of thing. You get one shot, if you aren’t voted in, your done. If you weren’t good enough the first year, why are you suddenly good enough five years later? (Not in this particulate case, just in any case where someone doesn’t make it their first time). Quote

Your highbrow opinions will illuminate many here. OK if we lather you with ketchup and mustard and throw you onto a card table now? 1 Quote
mushypeaches Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 I was not quite old enough to have watched and appreciated all of the football that was played in the 1980's But I don't remember ever thinking that Joe Klecko was a dominating HOF type player. Yes, he did a lot of the dirty work that helped free up Gastineau and got a lot of sacks in his own right, but Hall of Fame? Nah. Hall of Very Good - sure, why not And just for S&G, I looked up career AV on Pro Football Reference just now: Joe Klecko - 91 Fred Smerlas - 104 And no one's really ever been banging the drum for old Freddy to get in Quote
Mr. WEO Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 I'll wait for noted sage Bruce Smith to tell me what to think about this one.... 1 Quote
