  1. 1. [Poll] Whaddya think? Do the major starters get/need any playing time before season starts?

    • No friggin' way - I know what they can do and I want no injuries. I wanna see more of the 2s and 3s to evaluate.

    • Yes, this week. Knock some rust off, game action with new coaches, develop timing. Home game, extra week to recover should any nicks happen. Make the kids happy!

I reluctantly chose yes to next week.  But I'd like to see them run no more than two offensive series.  If the first offensive series is an extended drive, then I'd be fine with them calling it a day after that.

I still won't watch (I never do, because all I do is worry).

I voted no, but I don't think there's really a big deal between them playing a series or two and not playing. I think people make a mountain out of a mole hill on the difference between those two possibilities.

Nope.  The starters can work on everything they need to in practice.  This week's game should essentially decide the roster, then the 3rd game is to let all of the 3rd stringers and beyond put something on film.

No starters in game 2. And then full starters game 3 tiered as such:

Allen, Diggs, Morse, Saffold, Miller, Hyde, Poyer: 1-2 drives

Dawkins, Brown, Knox, Singletary, Oliver, Jones, Edmunds, Milano, Johnson - 1 quarter

Davis, Bates, McKenzie, Gilliam, Rousseau, Dodson, Jackson, Elam/Benford - 1 half

I'm still trying to figure out the new preseason plan across the league now that they're down to 3 preseason games. It USED to be, the 3rd game was the dress rehearsal with all the starters, and then the 4th game was for all the backups and deep roster battles.

Not sure if they bump it up and have week 2 be the starters rehearsal, and week 3 be the backup battles. Or if we wait until week 3 to play the starters.

Either way, I think they will get SOME time. They need to get out and have at least 1 series of live, full speed action.

I think playing the starters this week makes the most sense.

I’m not overly passionate about the starters playing. But if it was my choice I would probably try and go two drives full strength. New coordinator and some new guys who are playing meaningful snaps week 1, id rather see them run a couple series before the first live bullet is against Aaron Donald and Bobby Wagner.

Until someone gets a season ending injury. Then they are making a mountain out of a mountain.

Voted no.  Starters can get their 'game-day' experience in practice by going against their own defense or offense.

Anyways, the opponent team is also likely to play Vanilla and not show anything.

The two games are required for the 2nd and 3rd stringers for getting game day experience as REPs are in high demand during TC/Practice and those players may not always get that in the practice.  The Pre-season game gives them an opportunity to play more reps as the starters won't play.

..and if they get hurt in practice? Slip on a mat?

Again, I think the risk vs reward of them playing is not in favor of them playing because I don't think there's much reward at all so accepting any risk to do it doesn't seem wise. However, the flipping out over the prospect of them playing a couple series is not the levels of insanity it's being made out to be.

The 2nd week is the new 3rd week, I think. I’m good with a couple series. It’s about as dangerous as practice, and they have to practice. Just be safe Josh, no red jersey.

I voted no, and with all due respect - the “play one or two series this week and rest Week 3” makes zero sense to me.

So the starters play two series and then don’t see live bullets again for 2.5 weeks?
