On the second 2-pointer he called a very makable play that should be successful a large percentage of the time with good execution. On the first one he called a low-percentage play that even first-teamers have trouble executing in mid-season. Quote

In Crowder's case, it was a bang-bang play with the ball right in his face just as he turned his head to look for it. On Hodgins, it was in the air a lot longer, giving him more time to look the catch in. Apples and oranges. They play different positions as well, with Crowder in the slot and Hodgins on the outside, with differing patterns and degrees of difficulty (more traffic inside, closer to the LOS for Crowder, more pattern depth and free releases for Hodgins). Could Crowder have made the catch? Certainly, but it was a tough ball and the QB was as much as fault as he was. Yeah a QB can't throw that ball like Keenum did to Crowder and expect to either not get his receiver killed or for the ball not to be tipped into two levels of waiting defenders. On target or low are the two options. This is common sense. Should Crowder have caught it? Yes and he's made tough catches his whole career, but it still would have been a bad throw. Keenum didn't look comfortable........he's new to the system and not getting all the snaps that the starter does in practice........I suspect he will look more like himself when he gets more familiar with the offense/personnel.
