Greg de'Ville Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Of course, it's hard knowing whether to believe a guy who acts like its Mardi Gras every home Sunday at the Superdome. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/foot...a.ap/index.html
Louie Armstrong Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Saints should hold out until they get a better deal. This has Rosenhaus written all over it.
SF Bills Fan Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Rather have them be the team to move to LA than us. At least wait until we all get to NO this year for the game.
Buftex Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 If they move, it will be LA, IMO. San Antonio is not a great sports town, and is not a very wealthy town. They love the Spurs, because they are winning. There is already a new NFL team in Houston, and in Dallas. Central Texas is very much Cowboys territory. Albuquerqe, I don't know...another relatively poor city...too risky for the NFL, I think. LA, whether anyone wants a team there or not, makes the most sense...New Orleans is actually very fortunate to still have the Saints. Unless of course you take into account what a moribund franchise they have been for about 32 of their 35 or so years....
Pine Barrens Mafia Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 If he moves them to LA, they sure as heck can't be called the Saints any more. Sinners, perhaps?

Arkady Renko Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Alburquerque already has the Isotopes, right? Why do they need a NFL team?
CajunBillsBacker Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Benson's best chance to stay in New Orleans is to wait it out until the next Governor election. When all of this started, Benson was making progress with our former Governor Mike Foster, then his term ran out and this lady Kathleen Blanco was elected. She obviously doesn't care if the Saints move because she thinks having any professional sports team in the state is just a waste of time. Benson will never get her to approve of any kind of deal.

CajunBillsBacker Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Is New Orleans really much of a sports team anyway? 334475 Once apon a time, they were very exciting to watch, even to an outsider. The Dome Patrol defense led by Sam Mills, Rickey Jackson, Vaughan Johnson, and Pat Swilling was dominating.
Arkady Renko Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 No, the Jazz has left. 334481 It's funny that the Jazz kept their nickname when they moved to Utah...
stuckincincy Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 It's funny that the Jazz kept their nickname when they moved to Utah... 334492 Yes - the Tabernacles seems a more appropriate name.
nobody Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 A BILLION dollar offer for the Saints?? If that is true then no city is safe that their team will stay. "Rosenberg told the newspaper he's received several offers from parties interested in either buying the Saints or persuading Benson to move the team. One offer exceeded $1 billion, Rosenberg said."

It's an interesting idea from a population standpoint, but someone already pointed out it's a poor area. $$$ are more important than bodies to the NFL. Albuquerque makes no sense at all! Small market, poor area. Sounds like some politician's pipe dream! Las Vegas would make more sense, but the gambling thing would be too close for comfort. You know casinos would NOT stop taking bets on NFL games! L.A. is the big prize, but I thknk there is more to that move than meets the eye. I bet the NFL wants to hand-pick who gets that market. The last thing L.A. needs is an assclown franchise. (Cards, Saints) I don't think they want to let Al Davis back either. Then there is always the Chargers just down the road. Canada, probably Toronto, is the dark horse in all of this. But with the fluctuations in the CDN dollar, and the numbers the NFL works with (billions and billions) a canadian franchise would a tough go. I mean a 5 cent drop in CDN dollar means a loss of 100 million bucks! As long as we have good ownership in Buffalo, I think the Bills are safe. I should also point out that even if the Saints leave New Orleans, the NFL will still bring the Super Bowl there because it's freakin' New Orleans! PTR

HopsGuy Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Tom Benson has been reading Kim Jong Il's book on posturing.
SF Bills Fan Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Movign to Albuquerque would be a step back for an NFL team, it's not that big (smaller than Syracuse metro) and there are no big corporations and nothing around it but Santa Fe. San Antonio is in an area saturated with the NFL. But they do have a dome in place. Over the weekend, I was in Houston and my friend from LA was there. He is working with 1 of 3 groups in LA looking to get an expansion team or buy a team. They want an expansion team first. Then, as the second option, they will buy an exisitng one. They don't want some idiot like Benson showing up with his gang. They are looking at the Chargers and the Saints. The Colts were the team they really wanted, but they got the deal for the stadium and left the picture. The Bills aren't even on the radar he said. This is only 1 of 3 groups and I don't know much about the others. My buddy from NO, says Benson is all talk and the Saints won't go anywhere. I think the Chargers are the team that is in danger. Of course, that leaves San Diego open.
