whenever i'm back in wny, i have ed kilgore take me to all the new cool places his riders have been. last time, we went straight from the airport to the hooters on maple only to discover it closed!

You should have stuck to the highlights like Applebee’s or Dave & Busters!    :)

I remember a time when Van Miller was my taxi cab driver.

When my Buick Regal was on the fritz, Irv Weinstein rebuilt my carburetor. Hand to god. Azar just held the flashlight.

I’ve been in Buffalo this week for a golf tournament at Crag Burn…my buddy and I called an Uber to head back over to the club last night and our driver started talking about Jim Kelly and the Pegulas…after further discussion I asked him how he knew so much and he told us his name. Hilarious. Super nice guy. He’s now 74 and while retired has done some work for the Pegulas and drives for Uber on the side.  I should have taken a picture but I didn’t want him to think we were making fun.

So instead of taking a photo, out of concern for Mr. Kilcore’s feelings, you thought you would tell this group of people?

Always liked Kilgore.  That’s pretty cool that he was your Uber driver.  I would be excited

Are you sure ? I'm surprised a VP would be driving uber.

"Kilgore is currently the Vice President of Public Relations for East Management Services LP an independent oil and gas exploration and development company. He and his wife Debbie live in Orchard Park and have a daughter Shannon who currently lives in Geneva Switzerland and is engaged to be married."

East Management Services is one of the Pegula's companies.    It's based in Boca Raton, has 12 employees and Kim is listed as the owner.

Do what ya gotta do, I would never look down on someone for working. I don't think the OP was doing that.

But as some people mentioned here, I've also taken Ubers from people who are retired and don't need the money, they actually just enjoy it.

My only memories of him was when I was younger in the 80's and lived in the Buffalo area. Saw him on the newscast each night on channel 2 (NBC, WGRZ). My family liked NBC for local news better than CBS or ABC (Fox didn't exist back then), the weaker broadcast signal notwithstanding. Plus, that was the network that covered the AFC back then.

[BTW, hope that newbie poster from a week back or so doesn't object to my using "notwithstanding" above, and relegating this to a dress stitching forum, lol.]

Somewhat off topic, but the guy on the left, Nick Clooney, is George Clooney's father.

Serious….

have you thought about what you want to do after you retire?

in mycuttprrent job I probably retire near the end of this decade.  I won’t be 65 yet so I’ll probably find another job.  I carry health insurance into my retirement so I don’t need to work to get insurance.  I coukd do more consultant/ project based work.

after I start collect SS after I am old enough fir 100%  I will still probably work part time just to get out.

Years ago pre 9/11. I recall crossing the peace bridge in summer and getting my chemistry teacher in HS

Maybe go to law school.  or travel.  If I'm broke I might drive people around.

Sorry for my late reply, and that I revived a (somewhat) dead topic from earlier this week.

Clooney comes from a talented family. I did not know this about his father! Also, Clooney's aunt was Rosemary Clooney, a cabaret singer who  appeared on his TV show ER.

Here is a clip of Ed Kilgore, btw, hosting the Jim Kelly show in the 80's, with Kelly going behind the scenes of the making of the famous Kelly's Heroes poster:

[BTW, why isn't Fred Smerlas's twitter account verified? I guess those youngins don't remember him!]

I used to make really good money on weekends and honest to God, 75% of my rides were fun. I've always been out going. Collected some phone numbers. Talked a ton of football. Had a sober chick kiss me. Was gifted a Quran lol. Had a gay dude tell me I was hot (highest compliment lol). Had a guy split 20 scratch offs with me, ended up with like 35$. Lol it was a really good time on its own, add in some extra cash, it's a good gig if you can make it what you want it to be.

Even drove a dude from UBs bball team that ended up being a stud (forward, avgd like 17ppg, won a game in Ncaa tourney for first time i believe) and having a stint in NBA. Nick something? Woulda been 5ish years ago. Looked stupid af in the back seat of my Accord haha

I just looked back at my post and don’t think I’m disparaging or “looking down” upon Ed.  It’s just funny that a guy we all watched for years on WGRZ is now retired and doing some Uber driving on the side to keep himself busy.  He seemed very happy.

sometimes when you drive the Uber you make 200.00 and women show interest in you.

good for him.

Does he have to? Maybe he enjoys staying busy and talking to people. I don’t have to work, but I do as do many “retired” Americans.

If you take a lot of Uber rides, you quickly appreciate the silent driver....

I'm in a position where I have to start driving again. I've only had one real bad situation in the 4 years previously that I have been driving. All in all it's been really good.

Why? I could list a lot of higher level management(I wonder if they had high level meetings on deciding if they’ll Uber) or owners that ride share. Most of them are bored and don’t know what to do with themselves if they aren’t working or don’t want to deal with wife.
