ChiGoose Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 From Military Times: "The Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act — better known as the PACT Act — had been up for a procedural vote in the chamber with an expectation of final passage before the end of the week. The measure is the culmination of years of work by advocates to improve health care and benefits for veterans suffering injuries from burn pit smoke, Agent Orange spraying and other military contaminant exposure. It has been widely celebrated as a potential landmark legislative victory in veterans policy. The measure passed the Senate by a comfortable 84-14 vote in early June, and by a 342-88 vote in the House two weeks ago with significant Republican support. But on Wednesday, after technical corrections sent the measure back to the Senate for another procedural vote, 41 Senate Republicans blocked the measure, leaving its future uncertain." The bill was good enough for the GOP last month, but suddenly providing benefits to our veteran's is no longer acceptable. 1 1
Wacka Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Most likely because of the pork the dems jammed dinto it. 1 1

It was only up for another vote for technical corrections. They most likely changed their mind because the Dems are pursuing an unrelated reconciliation bill.
Wacka Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Don't know anything about it. but my money is on my speculation. I have more important things to worry about right now. 1

Tenhigh Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Pretty crappy, and I'm betting it's going to get pushed through in short order. Its gross when politicians play politics with people's lives, I remember something similar with an early covid relief bill. 1

Demongyz Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 How about we just have bills that only do what the headlines say? Let's try that. 1 1

Buffarukus Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 (edited) big problem we have in a 2 party system is one side is always completely oppositional even to rational things. remember dems blocking police reform bill in the middle of blm. i dont even think it was all that rational but dems def did not want rep addressing that issue before a election. its so dysfunctional i can see rep blocking anything that could be considered a win so dems have nothing to go into elections on. happens all the time to the detriment of US citizens if its true and it was purely a bill to block veteran help then at the very least the slugs blocking it get the vote played repeatedly in any election in the future. sanders wants provisions in the microchip bill on who gets subsidies to keeps jobs in the US and maintains union integrity if it exists? manchin has to force subsidies in the clean energy for nuclear? this all is non partisan stuff we all should agree on yet sanders was denied and luckily nuclear was a sticking point!? why!!? they literally go out of their way to be as corrupt as possable. Gene Frenkle Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 This was a retaliation play by the GOP and a big ***** you to all these veterans. 1 1 1

The GOP flipped on this as soon as Manchin green lighted the climate tax bill. As one GOP analyst admitted…they just could not stomach the DEMS having any success….so eff the vets. That is all there is to it. 2

GOP Senators were ok with the marriage bill and the PACT Act only on the condition that the Dems didn't do a reconciliation bill. The Dems managed to get a proposal for a reconciliation bill, so now the GOP senators are going to tank two unrelated bills. 1 1
