SCBills
Most Americans believe abortion should only be legal, somewhere between 12-20 weeks, with rare exceptions after. However, and R’s can’t seem to grasp this, politically… when given the option between strict bans and no limits at all … people are going to choose no limits at all. Its sad. Nobody has to like that. But it’s the post-Dobbs reality. It can be overcome, but R’s need better candidates and a better ground game. Florida and Georgia have strong Governors with huge approval ratings and massive voter registration/ground game infrastructure. The result: Heartbeat bans and electoral landslides for DeSantis and Kemp. Unfortunately for R’s, MAGA runs the GOP and the candidate issue is not in their favor right now. Trump is the notable divisive figure, but down ballot they are throwing away winnable races to appease him… Lake over Lamb in AZ for instance. Rogers over Amash in MI. Nevermind the Arizona GOP machine has been utterly destroyed under Trump.

Why isn't the gOP standing up for women that need abortions to save their lives? Why is the GOP so hard core on this issue that they treat women like criminals? I’ll admit.. I don’t know what the right answer is. I’m pro-life personally, but not a single issue voter, nor am I militantly political on bans.. but there’s two sides to every story. 🧵

And not surprising since this is the main reason for most later-term abortions. What was the threat to her life?

The Frankish Reich
42 minutes ago, KDIGGZ said: Makes sense. Silver had Biden bottoming out at about a 28% chance of winning the electoral college right before he withdrew. So Harris made immediate and substantial gains, and is now back in the familiar Democratic position of a likely comfortable win in the popular vote. (The Republicans have won the popular vote exactly once in this century.) The likelihood of a repeat of the inside straight pulled off by Biden in 2020 is pretty low (MI-WI-PA-GA-NV-AZ), but there's still a very reasonable (approaching 4 in 10 chance) of pulling off the PA-MI-WI trio and grabbing a close electoral college win too. Trump will win the electoral college and lose the popular vote and then Dems can cry about the electoral college some more and threaten to change it like they are threatening the supreme court just because things aren't going their way
ChiGoose
Oh look, abortion laws negatively impacting miscarriage care. Who could have possibly predicted this? “WASHINGTON (AP) — Bleeding and in pain, Kyleigh Thurman didn’t know her doomed pregnancy could kill her. Emergency room doctors at Ascension Seton Williamson in Texas handed her a pamphlet on miscarriage and told her to “let nature take its course” before discharging her without treatment for her ectopic pregnancy. When the 25-year-old returned three days later, still bleeding, doctors finally agreed to give her an injection intended to end the pregnancy. But it was too late. The fertilized egg growing on Thurman’s fallopian tube would rupture it, destroying part of her reproductive system.” Edited August 12 by ChiGoose

ComradeKayAdams
1 hour ago, Tiberius said: For completeness, the number of states where abortion is on the November ballot stands at 11: Arizona, Nevada, Montana, Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, Missouri, Arkansas, Florida, Maryland, and our beautiful home state of New York. Arizona and Nevada are 2 of the 6 key swing states in the presidential election, while Montana has a hotly contested Senate seat in play. 5 of those 6 key swing states (including Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania…all but Georgia) also have a Senate seat up for election in 2024. Ohio’s Senate seat election could be influenced by the abortion issue, as well. It’s going to be a real challenge for the Democrats to sweep the 7 aforementioned Senate elections in order to reach an overall 50-50 Senate tie. But if they continue the trend of outperforming polls since Roe v. Wade was overturned, then it’s more than just possible and maybe even becomes the most probable outcome.
