Rich Stadium Original Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 So there has been a lot of hype around the Bills and their prospects for a great season based on the talent on the roster. But how much separation is their between the Bills and other favorites in the conference at the skill positions? QB - Herbert may not have the dual threat capabilities that Allen has, but some would argue he’s a better passer. WRs - Yes, the Bills have Diggs and Davis, but the Chargers have Allen and Williams, who some people think is the best receiving tandem in the NFL. Shutdown Corner - Well, when he’s 100%, the Bills have White, but the Chargers made a big splash in free agency with J.C. Jackson. Safeties - Hyde and Poyer?….They have All-Pro Derwin James. Big Veteran Disruptive Pass Rusher in Free Agency?…Sure, we picked up a great one in Von Miller…but don’t forget the Chargers signed Khalil Mack….oh, and that other guy already on the lineup named Joey Bosa. And all this there is still D Tackle Sebastian Joseph Day they got from the Rams. If nothing else, these rosters were built very similarly, but not that sure we are THAT much better, especially if the injury bug hits. 4 1 Quote
Bills fan since 87 Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Chargers also have a BRUTAL division that will take a lot out of them. Lets see them make the playoffs first. But yeah, roster v roster is close. 1 1 Quote
buffblue Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Every year it's the same thing with them. Talk to me when the Chargers actually make the playoffs. How do you get blown out by the Texans with your season on the line? 4 2 2 Quote

Ross Murdock Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Plus the Charges play in a city that couldn't care less about them. LA fans barely support the Rams. If the Chargers ever get home field advantage in the playoffs, the opposing teams will have MANY more fans in the stadium. The players are highly paid professionals. But over the course of a season it must grate on them that there fans are totally indifferent to the team. The Chargers should have stayed in San Diego, who fully supported the team, or they should have moved to Portland or even Oakland where the fans would have fully embraced them... Foolish ownership never really cared about fans. 1 Quote

That helps. 1 Quote
julian Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 The Chargers have more elite proven talent… the Bills have more good-very good players and Allen is more Dynamic and physical than Hurbert. IMHO 2 Quote
RyanC883 Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 This could be an issue where we get the 1 seed, much like Pats used to do, by having the weaker division. But on paper, teams are very close. I like our overall depth at WR and multipurpose QB more. I give our roster an edge in having more ways to beat a team. 1 Quote

The Chargers do have the closest roster to the Bills in the conference. They probably have even a little more star power... but they have bigger weaknesses too. The heart of their defense being one - defensive tackle and linebacker are weak. 1 Quote
TBBills Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 (edited) I like how the OP says "we" as if he was a Bill's fan. You can see this guy is a troll by looking at his very short post history. Chargers couldn't even make the playoffs, not even as a WC team and they added an extra WC team... Edited July 16, 2022 by TBBills 1 2 Quote
Rich Stadium Original Posted July 16, 2022 Author Posted July 16, 2022 Maybe not a huge poster, but a huge Bills fan. My dad took me to my first game at the rock pile in 1970, as well as the very first game ever at Rich Stadium. To clarify my point, I think the Bills to have the best talent across the board in the AFC this season..but there isn’t a big gap between us and everybody else..especially the Chargers. The best thing the Bills have going for them is a weak division, and the prospect for playing their playoff games at home. 1 1 Quote
mannc Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 (edited) I would take Josh Allen over Justin Herbert 10 out of 10 times. Herbert is a great talent but he just has a way of coming up small in the big moments (kinda like the Chargers). He is nowhere near the leader that Josh is. Edited July 16, 2022 by mannc 3 Quote
SirAndrew Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Coaching also has to be part of this comparison. I’ll admit that I’ve expressed frustration with McD on gameday threads over in game decisions. I’m also aware that McDermott is a very good head coach who continues to gain valuable experience every year. This coaching staff is top notch, and more often than not we’re very well prepared. Who knows if Brandon Staley can even succeed as a head coach. We have a huge advantage in coaching over the Chargers. That’s why I think the Chiefs remain the biggest hurdle, because Andy Reid is one of the few AFC coaches who can match us in that area. 2 Quote
Pete Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Cincy and San Diego are our two(and only?) biggest obstacles on our Super Bowl quest IMO 1 Quote

I’m pretty sure that the Chargers are pretty happy to be where they are. Have you ever even been to Oakland? Quote

The Chiefs - Because we haven't yet beaten them in the Playoffs or have the road to the SB go through Buffalo. The Chargers have added key pieces to their defense...That defense with bookend DEs and some great DBs is very scary. If the Chargers have a good coaching staff this season, they will win the AFC West. Quote
MJS Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Who says Herbert is a better passer than Allen? Herbert is a fine young QB, but Allen is better than him. Herbert hasn't even made the playoffs yet. Year after year the Chargers get pumped up in the off-season and everyone thinks they are getting over the hump, but then they find ways to beat themselves and lose games. I think they will end 3rd in their division. Quote
foreboding Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 We also have a QB that has that clutch factor. That should a be a +90% modifier right there! Justine Sherbert hasn't shown any of that, they can't even get in the tournament. Quote

Chargers have a ***** ton of talent… if the Bills don’t take the AFC this season my guess is because they lost to someone out of the West…. Either Chargers, Broncos, or the Chiefs again, IMO. Hill is making sure everybody knows just what a stud Tua is, great leader Yada Yada. Its the company line. Quote
