MartyBall4Buffalo Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 NFL | 'Fridge' Loses Eating Contest to 135-Pound Man - from www.KFFL.com Tue, 10 May 2005 20:29:01 -0700 The Associated Press reports former NFL DL William Perry badly lost a cake-eating contest Tuesday, May 10, to 135-pound Richard LeFevre, a 61-year-old retired auditor from Henderson, Nevada. LeFevre devoured a 5-pound birthday cake in 11 minutes, 26 seconds to earn the title of "World Cake Eating Champion." Perry, known as "The Refrigerator" during his playing days, started strong but had eaten less than a quarter of his cake when LeFevre finished, and wound up in last place. It was Perry's first sanctioned event since a poor showing at a hot dog-eating contest in 2003.

The guy seems to be a professional speed eater, and he's won the Nathan's 'competition' several years running. The fridge just doesn't have the speed to compete at a national level. He should train really hard and enter some local competitions to get his confidence up. All his life he's eaten for the long haul, he must change his tactics to be successful.
USMCBillsFan Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 He only ate 4 hot dogs at that competition. Hell, I think everyone on this board could've beaten him in that one.

Spun Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 It is worse that "the Fridge" lost a boxing match to of all people, Manute Bol.
zow2 Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 There's a definite body type strategy to these stuff your face eating contests. The skinny people don't have layers of fat surrounding their stomachs like the Fridge....therefore their stomachs can expand more. Fat people can't stuff as much in there at one time.

I once stumbled across a website which listed the stops on the US tour, as well as profiles of the top 25 players. What was interesting was that each stop featured a different regional hometown food - hot dogs, oysters, whatever. Each pro tended to have food strengths and weaknesses, like clay vs grass in tennis. In that respect the hotdog championship was sort of the Wimbleton of the tour. The skinny Japanese guy is the world champion I think. The skinny Japanese girl you are thinking of is probably the girl who got a lot of press a year or so ago. IIRC she was a student at College Park MD, was of Korean descent, entered a contest on a lark, turned out to be really good at it, and went pro.
