HOUSE Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 According to Tipico Sportsbook, McDermott’s odds are not stellar. He is listed at +3000, meaning a $100 bet would land the winner $3,000. https://billswire.usatoday.com/2022/07/11/sean-mcdermott-coach-year-odds-buffalo-bills/ 2 Quote
FilthyBeast Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 COY are usually for guys whose teams that defy the odds, overperform, come out of nowhere, etc. So even if the Bills live up to the hype this year and make it to the SB or win it I'm not sure why McD would be in the the COY conversation because they'd be doing exactly what everyone expected them to do. 6 2 Quote
Mr. WEO Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 If no SB appearance, he can't win. His team is loaded and he imploded last season in the final game. 4 2 Quote

machine gun kelly Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 (edited) I’d agree it will be hard for him as there is talent on this team, they are expected to win. he was jobbed though in 2020. Edited July 11, 2022 by machine gun kelly 1 1 Quote

MJS Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 Everyone already expects them to make the Superbowl and views the Bills at having one of the most talented rosters in the NFL, so McDermott would have to match and exceed those expectations. The only way to really do that is to have basically a historic season stats wise and only lose like a single game. McDermott deserved that award back in 2017 and probably 2020 as well. 2 Quote

I am taking McDermott because he was passed over twice. Sometimes that can be the reason he might win. Plus, I said I would place the bet and if I don't, GUESS WHAT WILL HAPPEN FOR SURE ??? 1 Quote

Coastie Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 Yeah, if it is voted for before the SB, it will be tough to win with the preseason favorite. Quote
Doc Brown Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 It would take a minimum 15 win season and no coach turning their team around drastically. The latter is how Dick Jauron, Matt Nagy, Jason Garrett, and Kevin Stefanski won it. Quote

eSJayDee Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 Well, whoever was the coach the last 2 yrs managed to win the division & make playoffs. So his threshold is that. Anything less would likely be sub standard. Further, the team is possibly the SB favorite going into the season. There's 32 coaches & his odds are 30-1. Seems about in line. Quote
Allen2D̶i̶g̶g̶s̶TBD Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 (edited) It's all about wins over expectations. The Bills would have to go undefeated to significantly overperform what is expected. My money would be on new coaches having a breakout year on a team that had a bad record last season. If the Jaguars, Jets, or Bears make the playoffs, their coach will win COTY.
