Van Halen, Hot For Teacher.

Just saw it while flipping channels on one of the VH1 stations,

nothing else comes close IMO, not even the Stones' 1968 Jumping Jack Flash promo.

Speaking of the Stones and videos - the first video I ever remember seeing on MTV was ''Waiting on a Friend" - at a road trip party in college. Back in the day -when MTV was a premium channel and had not permeated every pore of society. I've always loved that song and every time I hear it I think about sitting there in a drunken stupor that night watching "this new cool MTV thing".

"We are not Men, We are Devo". I in general don't like the genre - 3 seconds of the gyrating scantily-clad female, and then unfortunately right back to the lip-syncing band.

Sit down Waldo. Can you imagine if you were 12 years old in 1984 and when your school bus shows up Diamond Dave is driving it. Damn those guys need to get back together.

I always liked Ah-Ha's "Take on Me" video. Thought the animation was way cool. Song wasn't bad either

I dunno about greatest ever. You can easily have better eye candy from a porno. I would have to go with people that made the music video a true artwork, like Korn's "Freak on a Leash", Busta Rhymes' "What's it gunna be", Michael Jackson's "Thriller", and Fatboy Slim's "Rockefeller Skank" all are better videos IMO. Hot for the Teacher has lost a lot of its historical uniqueness due to the fact that every rap video, and 1/4 of the other videos have slutty girls shaking their a$$es or dancing in a sexual manner (see pre-pregnant Britney Spears).

The best was Video Killed the Radio Star because it was the first. The Buggles fyi.

My personal favorite is Peter Gabriel "Sledgehammer"

Maybe not the greatest, but a classic was "Addicted to Love" by Robert Palmer.

Weezer on the set of Happy Days was very cool, too!

Actually it was just the first shown on MTV, but "videos" were made long before then.

Honorable mention:

"Underneath It All" by No Doubt (guys appreciate this one)

"Toy Soldiers" by Eminem (for some reason I'm riveted to the lyrics of this song and the video -- probably the most personal effort ever by an artist)

If you include a category for concert videos -- Goo Goo Dolls Live DVD is the best concert DVD in my collection and it came for free when I bought the CD.
