Reuben Gant Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 I have a friend visiting from out of country. He has decided he would like to spend a few days in Buffalo, so I am going to pick him up at BUF and show him around for 3 or four days. I figured I would take him to the Falls, and maybe to Duff's or the Anchor Bar, but I am really at a loss for keeping him busy for 4 days and giving him a great impression of the area. Any ideas? I don't live in Buffalo, but often come into see family. He should be coming in on May 18th and staying about a week.

udonkey Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 I could go to the Sundowner for 4 straight days and still be entertained.

Didn't think of the Albright-Knox. He is coming in from Japan. Not sure if he would be into the Canadian Ballet, I hadn't thought of that. He manages and opens resturants. Thanks for helping. I have never seen th Darwin Martin House myself. He actually lives a half a mile away from a Lloyd Wright in Japan.

PromoTheRobot Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 Buffalo is NOT one of the great tourist destinations in the world. But you could find some cool things as depending on what your friends are into. If they like t*tties and gambling, take them to Niagara Falls, ON. Spend 5 minutes looking at water falling. Then take them to either Casino Niagara or the new Fallsview Casino. Save a few bucks for the ballet! Head down Lundy's Lane to the Sundowner, the offical lapdance provider to the NFL. There are several other places nearby that are good too. Then if your friends want a "happy ending" go next door to Facinations. If they like culture, check and see if the Buffalo Philharmonic is performing. The BPO is still a world-class orchestra. Then there's the Studio Arena for live theatre. The Tralfamadore Cafe has good live music, specializing in jazz. Of course don't miss the Albright Knox art gallery. If he digs architecture, I think there are tours of some of the more amazing ezamples in the Buffalo area. Call the Chamber of Commerce for info. Cross the border and visit old Fort Erie as well. If they like to shop, take them to the Super Flea on Walden Rd. between Union and Dick roads. Acres of flea market crap, but it's a fun way to kill time. Also take in the Broadway Market at 1000 Broadway. It's not what it used to be but it's still cool. If they like to party, then take them down to Chippawa Street downtown, and Allen Street, and maybe even Elmwood Ave. near Forrest. Those are the three party areas in town. Bars are open until 4am in Buffalo. I have not lived in town for years so I can't say which restaurants are best. I know a late night Souvlaki at the Towne (Allen at Elmwood) is great. The only sports to take them to is Bisons baseball. You're in luck since the team is home from May 17th through the 24th. If he likes to fish, take him out on the breakwater. That wall goes for miles from. That's all I can come up with. PTR

Erie Basin Marina and Naval Park Fort Erie Race Track Miss Buffalo Boat Botanical Gardens and Basilica Old Fort Niagara Erie Canal While at the Falls: Maid of Mist Cave of the Winds Wax Museums (I think they are lame but...) BillsFanInTexas Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 Don't forget Wegman's - especially the newer ones. Always impresses the out-of-towners.
Fan in San Diego Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 The Basilica in South Park is amazing. The old fort in Fort Erie itself.
Pete Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 Don't forget Wegman's - especially the newer ones. Always impresses the out-of-towners. 332765[/snapback] Very true. A few years a college buddy of mine married a girl from West Seneca. About 20 of my college friends from Massachusets and New Hampshire made the trip and they were all blown away by Wegmans. Wegmans is the greatest grocery store I have ever been. I wish we had them in Connecticut. Stop and Shop and Shaws are horrible
Fan in San Diego Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 Niagara on the Lake must have some wine tasting rooms. There is a theatre in Niagara on the Lake that is excellent as well. I forget the name at the moment. Stratford, some writers name on the tip of my tongue.
Pete Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 I had a good time on Chippewa too. Anchor bar jazz is great also

Reuben Gant Posted May 10, 2005 Author Posted May 10, 2005 Thanks for all these replies! Bison's are in town. That is great, he loves baseball, and I hadn't thought of that. Where is the Wegman's I should go to? on what street?
