Does he want to be... anarchy?

It's the only way to be!

A well placed joke for the over 40 crowd!

Not a great player but a solid signing.  Our IOL depth is bad and Van Roten likely becomes our first IOL off the bench if Saffold, Bates or Morse gets injured.  Haven’t seen the financials, but I’m happy that we addressed our depth along the IR.  Quessenberry and Van Roten are low key nice depth additions.  Not great players by any means, but likely upgrades over the incumbent depth (Ford, Mancz and Doyle).

Mancz is pretty much strictly C depth

Competition for Boettger and Ford

Boettger is off an Achilles, probably won't see the field this year

Improves depth at the bottom of the roster.  He may not make the roster and he almost certainly will never see the field, but in the case of a disaster of multiple injuries, he's better than Ulmer, whose roster spot he fills.

Won’t make the roster? Who’s making the roster then? IOL depth is our weakest position on the roster. No draft picks or experienced vets. Van Roten is the experienced depth.

Doyle is a wildcard but our 3rd IOL will likely be someone that can play all 3 spots. As of today that’s Van Roten and Mancz.

Why wouldn't Quessenbury be first to back up IOL? I thought he could back up at all 5 spots and compete to start at RT.

The Bills generally like to have a swing tackle and a swing interior guy plus a specialist backup center. That has been their MO. Quess is their swing tackle. Van Roten is their swing interior guy. My guess is they are linemen #6 and #7 on gameday. I am not sure they have that specialist center on the bench at this point, but let's see what moves are made later.

They tried signing him in 2020 also. Beane is persistent.

Ford is done. This guy replaces Bates as the 3rd IOL. Boettger is going to miss most of the season.

What did I miss or forget on boettger?

Well, I did say "may not" and not "won't."  A lot depends on training camp.  Obviously, Morse is entrenched as the starter at center.  Most of us assume that Ryan Bates and Saffold are the most likely starters.  There are a bunch of potential backups.  Boettger and Ford both have started at guard for the Bills.  As you mentioned, there is Mancz, who can swing to center too.  I won't name the other guard prospect(s) who are long shots to make the team.  Quessenberry is another issue.  Doyle is the youngster, but I think he grew up a lot last season.  He has further to go, but his youth and reasonable contract are in his favor.  I don't think Quessenberry is a lock to be the swing tackle.  If Doyle ends up being the guy, Quessenberry could shift to an interior backup who can also play tackle.  If hypothetically neither Mancz nor Van Roten stick, the Bills have dealt with a situation like that before.  Feliciano for a time started at guard and backed up Morse, shifting inside when needed.

I will assume the starters end up being Dawkins, Saffold, Morse, Bates and Brown.  I think most likely the Bills will carry four more offensive linemen.  I think Quessenberry is close to a lock. I think the Bills like Doyle enough to keep him.  I think the Bills will likely keep one of the younger possibilities, either Ford or Boettger.  Who knows if Ford might turn the corner and thrive under Kromer.  Both Mancz and Van Roten are 30+ versus 25 and 27 for Ford and Boettger.  Maybe the Bills will favor experience over youth and favorable contract for both their interior backups.  I'm just guessing they might want a little of each.

The OL situation is tenuous - could undercut the season with one injury. How that Bernard pick wasn't Parham, Burford, Rhyan, etc. is amazing if not borderline criminal.

I like having vets and udfas battling for the bottom of the 53.  Imo going vet min might be Buffalos way of overcoming thin UDFAs.  A few larger contract and tough decisions might move the lever back but for now I like the idea.  Unless a massive leap happens give me Austin over Stevenson.  Quessenberry over Doyle.  Phillips and Lawson over the bottom of the Dline.

The Bills are the Super Bowl favorite............but not a typical one.........I believe they are seen as having only a 7% chance of winning the SB by Vegas because the field is much more competitive than many years.

The point being that the Bills odds are not so great that they should totally eschew developing young players as reserves in the chase of the Lombardi this season.

They need some young players in development who, ideally,  can eventually fill starting roles.........ALONG with some veterans.
