Funny stuff from Gabe.

Gabe (while smiling):  "Dors[ey] has a huge personallity and gets fired up quick, so he's going to have to be in the box.  We can't have him on the field.  If he hears this he needs to know that he'll definitely be in the box all year.  (inaudible question) [while laughing] ...No, no.  We'll decide.  We'll make sure he's up there for sure"

He has gone full Gronk.

Better than going full Benjamin who would not catch balls from Allen before a game! 🤣

Now he's catching deals at the local buffet.

PS - it wasn't at Giants training camp.

From Joe B, scouting the Matt vs Matt puntapalooza:

Quote

Each player got the chance to kick against the wind, and while Araiza carried the better average yardage (45.25 to Haack’s 42.75), the rookie averaged significantly less hang time. Haack averaged 4.41 seconds of hang time in his punts against the wind, while Araiza averaged only 3.81 seconds. Araiza’s average hang time with the wind (4.05 seconds) was even less than Haack’s kicking against the wind.

From a returnability standpoint, Haack probably gets the slight edge on Tuesday in not allowing the returner to get as much of a runway, despite averaging fewer yards per kick.

Bills OTAs

Perhaps all the talk and energy regarding Araiza’s ability to hold should’ve been focused on his lack of hang time. Need him to get that aspect of his game solidified. He has only punted competitively for one year.

Hang time was a knock on Araiza during the draft. Hopefully he can get it fixed. Or maybe we carry two punters. If we punt from the 35 or more from our end of the field, Araiza punts. Closer to midfield or from the opponents' side, it would be Haack 😆

Have to assume it was one of those "personal reasons" situations...

He might be poncing around playing golf with 3 other offensive linemen.

Can’t really judge without being there in person, but he seems a bit slow in getting punts off. Not sure what kind of situational punting they’re practicing, either, but they don’t come off his foot consistently in those clips.

Imagine thinking punt hang time would be a main off-season story...

When you are as good as the Bills, you start looking at things weird. We're talking punt hang time and how much we hate our young, 2-time pro bowl LB.

Some teams did not have a “draftable” grade on Araiza for exactly this reason.

70 yard punts are fun to watch, but if the hang time sucks or they go flying through the end zone, they’re not great for practical purposes.

There’s a reason that Araiza was the third punter drafted. Here’s hoping he can learn to put some hang time on his kicks. He’s like the punter version of Josh Allen: all the physical talent in the world, but needs to be coached up and get his mechanics right.
