I was actually being serious!  Performers are vulnerable .. especially at the smaller venues, which are likely not equipped with metal detectors.  It really is very scary and sad.

my snark detector went off when I read dimebag Darryl,,I agree with you though. Its really really sad our world is coming down to this kind of situation...Thank you Will Smith. SMH

what was that message  denzel spoke into will smiths ear about the devil ..Denzel was right in this case. Look at the fruit of it......SMH

Well, Gugny's post illustrates the fact that there is history of such violence against performers that goes well beyond Will Smith. Society gets to a point, for one reason or another, where individuals feel the need and justification to lash out.

I know. And using Will Smith wasn't meant to make him the scapegoat for all violence that is happening in the world. Attacking people and vicious behavior is not only happening Hollywood. NYC has its own share of lurid terrible headlines.  It seemed appropo in this particular case. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. People want to throw paint on real fur is another example of violence and someone feels justified to act out.  The world has a whole lot of Violence we are deluged with it on our TV's

Friend sent me this. Seems he took some punishment.

Oh wow!

I am no expert on jiujitsu, but that looks to me like someone who knows what they are doing got him in some type of arm hold and told him to resist or else....and he kept struggling....at which point the guy decided to pop his elbow.

That looks painful.

That's mostly an American thing--America is an extremely violent society.

We tend to show violence in this country (at least on network TV) as a substitute for the sex/nudity we can't show...

Which is funny.  2 people making love: streng verboten

Some psycho bashing someone's head in?  Perfectly acceptable.

whole lot of violence is also the Ukraine situation. Lord have mercy.

On sexualizing TV there is available porn  off my direc-tv dish 24 hours a day all the time if a person wants to pay for it. Nothing new under the sun there.

I wonder what set the guy off on Chappelle. Beyond both performing on  stages and being comedians and both he and Chris Rock black...well that's 3 things right there that make this incident similar....The precedent has been sent and here we are.......

Speaking of Artemis Pyle, he is playing at the Riviera Theater in North Tonawanda, doing a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute concert (along with Black Feet).

Oh My Gosh. True story. The band had just begun their set when some a-hole throw this plastic gallon jug of red kool aid allll over his new drum kit. He was HOPPING MAD. The band left the stage. We are left stunned Oh No what is going on?

after a lengthy delay they came back, played Freebird, walked Off. BOOM

NOT happy campers in orchard park that day. I was and am a huge fan of their music. To hear that Artemis is stll playing and kicking that makes me smile 🙂

For me theater, small venue shows are where its At. More my comfort zone than huge shows. Anyway thanks for the mention 🙂

A good friend of mine, who is also a phenomenal guitarist who primarily plays southern rock, played Freebird with Artemis Pyle in a Lake George, NY bar.  This was probably about a decade ago.  Talk about a dream come true.

EDIT:  Found it.

Vern is in a band called Dirt Cheap and Mark was their keyboard player.  Mark died in a motorcycle accident a few years back.

Dude definitely paid the price for trying to attack Chappelle.  Looks like he came away with 2 broken arms.

And……..he will probably sue because they were hard on him. Well, dude, you brought that on yourself!

"Alleged attacker"?  What, is there a chance someone switched him with someone else while they had him detained?

I’ve noticed editors going far over the deep end with that word.

saw a headline the other day “alleged killer sentenced to life” at the end of a trial which clearly ended with a conviction and it bothered me more than it should have.

I was watching a comedy show in Vegas last week  (no, not the Bills draft). It consisted of 3 very talented comedians. The last one said slightly before the end of the show that please remember this is just comedy, and that the jokes are not meant to offend anyone. I guess that it is safe to assume that he sensed that there would be other incidents after Will Smith.

I am not surprised, nor should anyone be. When bad behavior is condoned (if not rewarded in some cases), it will continue. There is no mystery here.

Jmo.

that said, most shows and comedy dates itself pretty heavily. I couldn’t imagine any shows from the 60s-70s these days

and will note we are maybe 10 years removed from perhaps the era of the most gratuitous “shock comedy” that I can think of.

last up I will note that for all the “they are killing comedy” tropes, the average person has access to more comedians than ever before - many of which are doing great content even if there are some hot buttons that aren’t being regularly pressed
