MrEpsYtown Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 They target people and they move around the draft board to get people they want. Also remember that with all the millions of comp picks we will see today at the end of these rounds, their 4th round pick is really a mid 5th. 2 2 Quote

Beane has made two 4th-round picks in his time with the Bills: Taron Johnson, who's one of the top nickel CBs in the league Gabriel Davis, who's stepped up in a big way whenever his name's been called He's absolutely CRUSHED both picks, so yes, given Beane's hit rate, it's disappointing we don't have a 4th. On the flip side, if there's a guy Beane really wants in the 4th, we can easily maneuver our way back in, I'm sure. I fully expected, before the draft, that Beane was going to move as he saw necessary. The moves are going to happen in a certain order. Middle picks to move up in higher rounds, lower picks to move up in middle rounds. If there is someone in the fourth that is just a glaring value on Beane’s board I have no doubt he will go get him. Apparently, half the posters on here know MORE than Beane and our future has just been destroyed by him working his intel and trading this years 4th. Me, I’m going to trust him and our scouting department. Crazy talk I’m sure. Dude, get your Dukes straight. The Duke Williams we drafted in the 2013 4th round was a DB, a safety, and he played for us 4 years, which is OK for a Day 3 pick. What's the point of going back 10 years? Different Sheriff in charge of the town. So we can say that in the last 4 years (Beane), he hit it solidly on 2 picks (Davis and Johnson) and traded the pick 2 times. It's clearly been a valuable pick for us. That said, if Beane and McDermott saw Elam >> Booth (or anyone else left on their board) I'm not gonna quarrel with their assessment. DB is one position where they seem to know their stuff. Quote
artmalibu Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 If he was the last CB that they had a 1st round grade on how could they not trade up to get him. Not a reach pick position of need Expensive position and a guy with a 5th year option With a good roster some draft picks could be cut anyway. I would be good if they move up in the 2nd and 3rd to make sure they get the guys they need. 2 Quote

Alphadawg7 Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 (edited) People need to move on man. Seriously, all this whining over a 4th round pick used to get the best player on Beanes board is approaching "Wrong Josh" levels...or "We way overpaid for Diggs" levels. I mean seriously, all this same nonsense happened when we traded for Diggs and people lost their minds over that extra 4th that was included. Then Diggs shut you all up. Just like Josh Allen shut you all up. Just like Tre White shut you all up when you freaked out we traded down and took him. You would think people would learn after being wrong so many times about these freak outs to trust the fact they don't know a fraction of what our Front Office does and that pissing and moaning to know end after a pick or trade is unbelievably premature and pretty pointless. Bottom line, he was the only player on Beanes board worthy of a first round selection, so he went and got him. Everything about this kid is exciting from his speed, size, skills, and most importantly his apparent work ethic and commitment to being the best he can be from all we have seen and heard from him so far. So make it stop already...move on, who cares about this stupid 4th round pick if Elam becomes a high end corner opposite Tre for years to come. And don't think I didn't notice many of the people freaking out in the Elam thread are literally some of the same people who ironically spent the past 3 years complaining about Levi Wallace and Dane Jackson and how we needed a better corner too. I totally agree with your sentiment. I think those upset about losing a 4th are stuck in the drought mindset when we were constantly trying to build a decent team. Back then every potential player was needed to try to better the roster. Now, with a built team, it's more important to add that impactful player that they see in reach. 4 Quote

I would rather them hedging their risk with a 4th round pick than reach for a guy they probably could get in the second round. 1 Quote

I doubt they do this, but I would have zero issue with the Bills only taking 4 players in this draft and using 5,6, 6, 7 to move up. We took 8 players last year and 2 of them got snatched off the PS squad. Essentially wasted picks. This years roster looks even more difficult to make the 53. 1 1 Quote

The Bills released him in his 3rd or 4th year, and he went on to greater success with Atlanta's Grits Blitz defense for about 8 more years. Quote

His wife is also an Olympian that competed recently if I remember correct. He ended up being a fine pick - just never in Buffalo. it is a scheme thing with cockrell. He is a very serviceable zone corner. Can’t really Play man well. He has had a solid 8-plus year NFL career. Quote

Airseven Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 The Blils have plenty of depth needs and rounds 3-5 are ideal spots to fill them. Depth at IOL is non-existent and obviously RB seems to be a target for them. Depth at Edge is still unproven and the Poyer contract situation looms. They still haven't replaced Klein. Losing that 4th hurts. ESPECIALLY if they want to go Punter in R5. Quote

Second, people hated it when we brought in Kelvin Benjamin too. Or when we drafted Cody Ford. Sometimes it makes sense. And if you feel people need to move on after eight hours of mild complaints, I'd suggest you take another look at your filter in terms of what people need to do. I don't greatly mind the move. And Beane is a sensational GM. But yeah, losing the pick hurts. People should stop kidding themselves it's nothing. It's not. It's something. we might easily have lost Elam if we hadn't made the trade. Or not. We'll never know. Coming down on one side of that argument, either side, makes sense.
