Patriots trade their 5th round pick for Texans 6th and 7th round picks

This really doesn't make sense from the Texans' perspective, for the reasons everyone already said. Anyone have any idea why they would make a trade like this right now (other than incompetence)?

This is much ado about nothing.  Belichick is a good coach, but a terrible GM.  The longer he gets away from Brady, the worse he looks.

Not so well the last three or four years but overall pretty damn well.

 

Belichick has been an excellent GM for the vast majority of his NE career. And he's done so while consistently drafting from about 25 and even lower.

 

Would he have done it without Brady? No, almost certainly not, but he's the one who drafted Brady, and with a comp pick besides.

 

I'm so happy to see that he simply isn't doing well lately. It's wonderful to see that, but he's been terrific overall.

He hasn't been recently. Past 5 or 6 years they have drafted very poorly. But the early part of the last decade they drafted very well. That is how they built their second dynasty team around Brady. 

 

This trade is for the Texans to target a specialist IMO. Watch them take a punter or kicker.

Usually don't see these ahead of the draft as they typically depend who is on the board at the time of the pick.

It's less money and 5th round picks for the most part are in no mans land.  6th and 7th at this point are developmental and can probably be stashed in PS, 5th might be poached by another team.

It’s just extra ammo to move around a little bit. Bill always moves around in the draft. He’ll probably end up with 2 extra picks for next year before the end.
