We changed our helmets to red hoping Joe would throw fewer INT's.  After all our division was full of white helmets then....Bills, Dolphins, Pats, Colts.

He was the first QB l was old enough to say "That's my QB!"

Recall the gutsy performance playing injured and was a soft spoken leader.  Happy Birthday Sir!

I didn’t know we had red helmets in the 70’s.  I thought the red helmets didn’t start until the 90’s.

Fergy was my first QB I remember, but only towards the end.  Happy BDay big guy.

The first year with red helmets was 1984...also Joe's last season in Buffalo.

Always liked Fergy. Even though he threw a pass to a buddy of mine after a camp practice in Fredonia and wouldn't throw one to me. Most likely because I was a long hair punk. (good read Joe) That same post practice day I wound up sitting on a golf cart having a cigarette with Isiah Robertson. Used to love camp at Fredonia State. ... MANY MANY MORE HAPPY BIRTHDAYS FERGY

Happy Birthday Fergy!

You're a good man and a good QB.

Agree. I was 17 and crushed when they lost. Their 'Bermuda Triangle' defense was #1 in the NFL and there is no doubt in my mind that team would have beaten the Raiders in the AFC Championship Game and then the Eagles in the Super Bowl. That 1980 season was their first division title since 1966 and the first I was old enough to remember. That is still one of my favorite Bills teams/seasons of all-time despite the way that San Diego game ended. I took some small consolation in the fact that Bob Chandler won himself a Super Bowl (sadly, traded that year to Oakland for LB Phil Villapiano).

Happy Birthday and many more, Fergy. 😊

Chuck Knox was a very underrated coach and team architect.

He was a three-time NFL Coach of the Year.

He took over a bad Rams team and led them to 5 straight division titles. He took over a bad Buffalo team and led them to consecutive playoff births. He then took over a bad Seattle team and led them to consecutive playoff births in his first two seasons. He had 186 wins, a .558 winning percentage and 11 playoff appearances.

The Bills were a clown show before he arrived and reverted back to being a clown show immediately after he left.

Thanks Ralph. I hope the $100K savings was worth it.

My #1 favorite Bill ever.  He gave us a sense of winning beyond just handing off to OJ.  And his gutsy performance playing hurt against SD in the playoffs is still my biggest (OK, second-biggest) heartbreak as a Bills fan.
