Greg S Posted April 22, 2022 Posted April 22, 2022 There was another team that was going take Allen ( I think it was the Cardinals) so Beane had to move up so they could get him if I remember this correctly. I know the Jets wanted Darnold (LOL) and made the trade with the Colts to move up to #3. Mayfield going at #1 was a surprise as most of the "experts" had Darnold going #1. Thankfully the Bills didn't take Rosen who most ( myself included) wanted them to take. 1 3 Quote
Virgil Posted April 22, 2022 Posted April 22, 2022 Seeing that list of QB's starting since JK was painful. The Jets were locked in on Darnold, but Mayfield was a surprise going #1. Had the Browns gone anyone besides Mayfield, who knows how it would have played out. I'd be very curious to know what the Jets draft board looked like 2 2 Quote
H2o Posted April 22, 2022 Posted April 22, 2022 May very likely end up being the greatest draft selection of all time for the Bills, especially when he brings that Lombardi home. 2 1 Quote

I'd be very curious to know what the Jets draft board looked like The Giants are another team that really screwed up. They were at #2 and took Barkley. I know he was great at Penn St but a RB at #2. Eli was getting older at that point so looking back they probably should have gone QB. I live in NJ and I tell you it has come up with the media sometimes how the Jets-Giants regret not taking Allen. Virgil Posted April 22, 2022 Posted April 22, 2022 Looks like I answered my own question. Take this article for what it's worth. It says the Jets wanted Mayfield and then Darnold, but fully expected to get Mayfield. Says the Bills wanted nothing to do with Rosen, but doesn't say if Allen was their #1. Now, there's been leaks of the Bills draft board that indicates Allen was their top choice all along https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/sam-darnold-nfl-draft-2018-jets-josh-allen-lamar-jackson/ky6wa5313a0t19k9o8i02wt4j 2 Quote
Buffalo Boy Posted April 22, 2022 Posted April 22, 2022 Even in those few highlights they showed you can see he had it then when he’s going on instinct. Thankfully Beane could see it and had the Brass Set it took to believe in his convictions. We are living the dream🤩 2 1 Quote
LABILLBACKER Posted April 22, 2022 Posted April 22, 2022 McB did their homework along with the scouts and selected a high ceiling talent who's now our superstar. Well done.... 2 1 Quote

Once that happened, the fans on this board went on a tirade. Cursing the Bills front office for not doing anything, and how the Jets were so brilliant for doing everything they could to improve their team. Fun days, indeed. 2 5 Quote

Thing is, it was a very good move by the Jest, positioning themselves as perfectly as they could. Trouble is, they then picked the wrong guy. 1 Quote

muppy Posted April 22, 2022 Posted April 22, 2022 (edited) what I recall about #17 being drafted was his blazer had the lining emboldened with Wyoming Cowboy logos. I thought that was a cool fashion choice at the time he had that made custom clearly for the draft. Consensus was the pick was a high reward high Bust scenario from what I remembered. Most of my chat brethren at the time were super high on Mayfield as the consensus #1. Josh was in some folks opinions just too raw and inaccurate to guarantee he would grow out of his college self and into a Pro. HOLY COW People do the Bills look like geniuses or what now? HA!~!~!!!!!!!!!! Edited April 22, 2022 by muppy 1 2 Quote

Maybe they are but at that point in time, they only needed to be smarter than six other GM's. I'm certainly glad they were. This also eventually shutdown the "we could have had Mahomes crowd". 1 1 Quote
