So the team that already showed they couldn’t afford/help pay for a team was somehow going to land another team??

It has happened at least 8 times before in the modern NFL - why would we think it could happen again.

The Chargers moved when a tax on hotels rooms was voted down - not even a tax the people in SD payed.

Of course.  Not surprising at all.  The deal they struck was definitely lopsided against the state of NY, but either they anted up or the Bills could leave.  With no guarantee that money would be used on “more important things.”

Just like player salaries...the cost of building these things is going up and there will be no shortage of suitors. Pay up to have a team. Glad little buffalo/rochester gets to have an NFL franchise. They would never, ever get one in today's market.

And  a large chunk is money made from the seneca casino  in wny so its fitting that money is spent in wny.

My spec. is that simply trying to let her voters know the threat was real and make the $850 mil. More palatable.  Who knows how serious San Diego was when they wouldn’t fork up the $ for a newer Chargers stadium.  It went to a refendum (like everything on the left coast)

The County was very serious.  The City not do much.

I tend to think that San Diego learned their lesson...

There's a price to pay for hosting an NFL team and it's not just your ticket price.

So SD wasn't willing to build a stadium to keep the team there when they had a chance but they'd happily pay for one now? Makes no sense.

I know there are some loyal Bills fans in SoCal, but overall people out there are interested in other things than the NFL.

I do love San Diego as a city, and it’s beautiful, but they are nothing like a group like Buffalo people.  We eat, breathe, and bleed red, white, and royal blue.

While it would have been great to have the bills much closer to me......I am glad they remained where they were.

Same here.   San Diego Chargers we’re always my 2nd favorite team.  Not so much since they moved.

Glad the Bills are staying in Buffalo but having them in SD would have been a bit conflicting.   If the Bills moved anywhere else they would have been dead to me.

Hochul did the right thing. In my opinion, WNY losing the Bills would have been devastating. The only thing I would have done differently, in an effort to give Buffalo an economic shot in the arm,  is locate the stadium in  downtown Buffalo and add a retractable dome. I would have investigated to see if federal infrastructure dollars could be used for to created a winter sports park featuring Slalom Runs, Speed Skating Area, outdoor hockey arena, etc. The hope would have been to stimulate redevelopment and new private development.
