If they really thought that much of Levi Wallace they would have resigned him for what the Steelers gave him. 2yrs total $8M is a bargain for a good starting CB.  They would have paid him, if they liked him as a starter or weren’t looking for an upgrade.

Orrrrr…they feel Dane is developed and ready to replace him. Not to mention, for a lot cheaper than 8 million.

This is a kid I would like to see us take IN ADDITION to a 1st round corner......or a viable veteran free agency pick up

I get the feeling you were one of the guys that didn’t want us to trade up for a qb in 2018, but instead continue to “build the defense” and take a guy like Rudolph in round 2.

Scouting reports suggest he needs lots of coaching.  He's undisciplined, gives up big plays and is a terrible tackler.  I wouldn't say don't draft him, but know you're going to have to do a terrific coaching job to turn him into a solid pro, and it's probably not happening in his rookie year.

WR Jahan Dotson is also from Penn State. The Bills are also probably looking at him.

That linebacker is a beast to Brandon Smith.

none of those are true of him and I’ve been watching him play for 4 years.

He’s generally a good positional corner who tracks well, but struggles to make plays on the ball. He doesn’t really stand out in terms of gaffes, and while he’s not great in run support he’s also not bad.

His lack of ball skills and slender frame means he’ll struggle against better WRs who do have elite body control and ball skills and can out physical him, but his athleticism and sound technique suggest he’ll be a mid round pick because he’ll generally shadow anyone by the elite WRs

Love it.  This is where I'm at... McDermott isn't perfect, but he's very good, and clearly has an eye for CB play and development.

If I'm the Bills, I'm using my RD1 & RD2 picks on OL/WR/DL moving forward.  Then drafting two secondary players every year in Rounds 3-7.  Specifically targeting players like this that McDermott can work with and develop.  Keep the CB/S room stocked with constant draft picks, even if we're not spending high picks on the positions.

Good find, and clearly we need speed in the secondary.  You can scheme ways to keep teams from throwing over the top.  Can't really scheme open field scenarios where Tyreek Hill just runs away from all your corners and safeties.

Wouldn’t mind using our 2nd and 4th on CBs… something like that. If we like a guy, we should strike early and often. Need to be able to line up against 4-wide and 5-wide effectively.

1st and 3rd on WR or OG.

This evaluation is spot on.
I think TCF can be a good NFL corner.
I think the biggest strike against him is that he’s missed a ton of games over the past 2 years due to injury.

also, fwiw, psu has a gunner that ran a 4.22 yesterday. Drew Hartlaub. Also played safety but didn’t see the field much. I don’t know why.

I'm not saying the Bills shouldn't draft him.  I'm just pointing out that some observers think he heeds work, some more than others.

He really isnt though.  Has the the height, weight speed but Ellis Brooks is late day 3 or undrafted was a better player.

Nah Smith young,he only moved to LB recently. He'll be much better as a pro than Brooks.

And I don't dislike Brooks.

In fairness Hill does that to a lot of safeties and CB’s throughout the league.  The Bills aren’t special in that regard.

Penn state homer here.  Lots of good options this year - but higher risk guys with lower ceilings than most years.

TCF is okay.  Solid CB - but nothing flashy.  Seemed to peak already as I didn’t see a lot of growth last year.  Wouldn’t be a terrible pick - and could have a role - but NFL starter is probably a reach in the near term.

Dotson - stud - but small.  Guy will simply NEVER drop a pass.  I’d consider him early given our WR situation as a Beasley replacement.  But maybe that’s what McKensie is back for.  If we solve our glaring CB issue in FA he might jump to my top option in R1.

P Jordan Stout - in terms of need/fit - THIS is the top of my wish list for penn state/Bills connections next year.  You want a punter?  Grab this guy. Kickoff specialist too. Will kick the ball out of the end zone Every. Single. Kickoff.  No returns. Ever. Sometimes even in the stands. It’s amazing.

Brandon Smith - here is the high ceiling guy. Played lights out, then made you scratch your head.   One of the hardest hitters I’ve seen in a while. But overcommits with the aggression and gets crushed. If that can be controlled - you have a pro bowl type player.  But it’s a risky play. Mid rounds is okay for this risk profile.

jaquan brisker - this is a big question mark for me.  I Wasn’t too high on him junior year, but no doubt he played amazing last year. Since he is trending up I think he will be an nfl starter - and probably next year.  But I think it’s 50/50 he will be as good as people expect.  R2/3 is where I would feel more comfortable here.

Hartlaub is a special teams ace. Very exciting UDFA option (even if that is an oxymoron!)

Pitt Panthers coach was on moving the chains and it was indicated Dane and other corners out of Pitt are more NFL ready because Pitt plays man 90 percent of the time. Maybe recruit out of Pitt or other schools that play man.  Seems like it would be a good recruiting tool for these schools to feature man coverage.

He was a 5 star linebaker coming out of high school.   Now how PSU handled Parson brings in alot of questions as how they use talent there.  Overall, Brooks was the better player last year.  Smith is bigger and faster but not the leader or player that Brooks was.
