Matt_In_NH Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Center. Smells like backup plan if they lose Bates. 1 3 1 Quote
ExWNYer Posted March 21, 2022 Author Posted March 21, 2022 (edited) Turns 30 next month. Signed with Houston as a UDFA after the 2015 draft: "Rated the eighth best center in the 2015 NFL Draft by NFLDraftScout.com. Lance Zierlein of NFL.com said that 'Based on Mancz's tape and history, one would have to expect that he will find a way to succeed in the league.' Zierlein projected him as a sixth or seventh round pick. Chris Burke of SI.com projected Mancz as a mid to late fifth round pick." Edited March 21, 2022 by ExWNYer 2 Quote

And unlikely OBD loses Bates as we have right to match any offer. It likely comes down to whether Dorsey and Kromer want Bates in new scheme more than anything else. 1 Quote
YoloinOhio Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Mongo replacement. They had 2 guards under contract before this signing. 1 Quote
GunnerBill Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Has some position flex, he played center, guard and even a bit of right tackle in Houston. He is the kind of vet depth piece that if you don't find a young interior player in the draft could stick around as an 8th or 9th OL on the roster. He isn't good, but he isn't going to be a complete liability. Think Russell Bodine. 6 Quote
gonzo1105 Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 This is 100% what Beane does every off-season. Sign backup veteran lineman and see if someone will stick while having depth for camps. signed Jamil Douglas, Bobby Hart last year in the same fashion Quote
Johnny Hammersticks Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Not a bad signing for potential IOL depth. I don’t think this has as much to do with Bates as it does with losing Mongo. From what I have read, he fits well technique wise with what Kromer wants to do. 2 Quote

FIFY He played G and C in college and has played G and C in the pros Spent last season on the Miami practice squad That positionally flexible backup Beane likes to bring into camp to compete, whether or not we keep Bates. 1 1 Quote
BillsFan4 Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Hope this has nothing to do with Bates (leaving). 1 Quote
