Haden was a shut down corner for many years in the league.  He’s on the last lef of his career but still has another good year or two left.  My hope is we sign him for a year and draft one early.  Our roster is loaded with talent but we need to solidify the CB spots until Tre gets back

He’s the same age as von Miller…the same von Miller we just signed to a long deal. If we aren’t worried about Miller at that age, then why should we be worried about Haden at the same age?

Explosive speed position vs long speed position. I'm worried about any NFL player once they get the wrong side of 30, but it is definitely more of a worry in a long speed position like corner where they have to run with some of these freakishly athletic young NFL receivers. The advantage for Haden on the Bills is he would be asked to do far less man than he was in Pitt. When Pitt were in zone last year he still looked serviceable to good. In man he looked a problem.

I could see going 2 CB’s in rounds 1-3, as well as bringing in someone like Hayden.

They’re thin at CB, it’s a premium position and the draft seems deep at CB.

I thought the draft was deeper at WR but thinner at CB. Unless that is just starter caliber talent

The Steelers released him and sign Levi wallace.  Tells me something...

In the draft right after their Super Bowl, the Panthers drafted 3 corner backs (2nd, 3rd, 5th rounds). I will not be surprised if Beane and McDermott don’t sign a vet and take a similar approach this draft.

Because of the tight cap situation, I'm leaning toward this. 2 CBs in the draft makes sense of Bills can't sign a vet.

This would make more sense than the James Bradberry "rumor". Haden would probably be a third of the cost of Bradberry.

I think Haden doesn't think he should sign for 1/3 of the cost of Bradberry.  His last contract was an average salary of $11M/yr.

Slow Joe Haden....  I would worry about him and his declining athleticism, Bills have done this aging Vet thing every year and every year they miss.  Look Steeler instead of bringing Haden Back signed Wallace.

I wonder if Mike Hughes is a candidate.  Zone heavy background in MIN and started late last year for KC.  Believe he was  a team mate of Gabe Davis at UFC

IMO this team needs to sign two capable veteran DB's sooner than later.

Because it's truly wishful thinking to assume White is going to be ready at the start of the season or anywhere close to 100%. He probably won't come back until midseason and be close to his old self until December/January if that.

Therefore there is no way this team is going into the season with Jackson and and a rookie DB as their starting tandem after overhauling the dline once again making a splash with Von Miller.

What about AJ Bouye?

Not as good of a tackler in run support but younger and a better cover guy than Haden who is pretty scheme flexibile. I imagine him costing a bit more, but who knows?

Personally I have always thought Hughes is a good nickel but below average outside.

@GunnerBill I thought so but he failed in slot in MIN and played pretty well outside in KC last year.  He did fall down on Gabe's 3rd TD ion AFC Divisional - cruel Gabe did that to fellow UCF alum!

Yea, and it is the one position on the entire team that I think McD, Beane, and the rest of the staff can find and coach up a player through the draft. They will have the rookie ready. Look at White, Jackson, and Wallace. All played their rookie year and played pretty good. Jackson and Wallace were not high draft picks. I expect at least a first or second on CB.

Haden definitely makes scheme sense. Played lots of cover 3, better in zone, strong tackler in run support. If we wants a cheap ring chasing deal it might work.

He is at the stage of career where that’s what makes sense.  Still, I’m not pumping the brakes on another CB2 acquisition.  Haden would be very good depth and be able to fill in for Tre (or compete with Johnson to fill in for Tre) if he’s not back to start the year.

We still have Griffin, Harris, Lewis, McCloud, and Neal beyond T. Johnson, Tre, and Jackson currently on the roster. Is it possible one of these guys is ready to step it up?  Are we automatically assuming a draft pick (other than round 1 of course) will be better?  We as fans have limited opportunity to see and critique these guys. The coaching staff on the other hand may know something we don’t?  Trust the process for me.

Sometimes not making a move is a good sign that the coaching staff likes what they have.
