Why are a bunch of fans happy to bring in a guy who can't stay healthy, has been largely a bust and looks washed after a dreaded Achilles tear in 2020?

 

What you saw last year is post Achiles OJ Howard. 3.5 million for 140 yards and 1 TD?

 

Could have all but locked up Bates for the same money (2nd round tender is 3.8 million)

 $3.5M is a great price for a veteran TE2.  I haven't been an OJ Howard fan but certainly better than Sweeney.  And better than attempting a rookie.

 

Good move.  Eliminates a need.

Love this as a TE2.... he couldn't break out with Brady so my expectations are that of a TE2 red zone target that might make some big plays.  Forget his pre-draft hype, he doesn't appear to be that elite player he was eclectic to be.  But this is great for depth.

This is a very low commitment for a guy with tremendous potential.  If he can turn it around with the Bills he would be due a very big payday.  Very good prove it deal for the Bills.  Definite upgrade to what they have behind Knox.
