Leadership and pass rush and professionalism and intensity and Chamionship caliber in all ways!!!!!! Yes he is! To have Allen on Offense and Miller on Defense is a football fans’ utopia! 17 hours ago, jkeerie said: Totally agree. I didn't want the Bills to break the bank for just any player. Von Miller is the type of player you break the bank for. He plays big in big games...especially the playoffs. Something Chandler didn't do and something our defense last season didn't do. I said we needed a "Josh" on defense...especially after Tre went down. Von Miller is that kind of player! You are quickly becoming one of my new favorite posters. Sucks to be you 😉 Edited March 17, 2022 by Chandler#81 1 Quote

I was absolutely stoked on the one hand about getting a future HOFer on our DL to put some pressure on QBs. On the other hand (and I realize this sounds insane), I would've just rather resigned Hughes for another 2 or 3 years at a price $5 million less per year so we could go out and get a couple other potential pieces like a #2 CB and an RB I haven't watched enough of him lately, but is Miller still a force on his own? I thought Hughes was a really good player for us and a team leader. His stats might not have always reflected it but he was really good for us last year. I am relieved this isn't actually what I thought it was. It's really a 3 year, $52.5 million contract. But my honest initial reaction when I saw 6 year, $120 million for a 33 year old (in just over a week) was NOT excitement. Great post. I agree. The Bills brass put so much effort in getting pass rushers via free agency and drafts. It seems clear to me that they have not done well in that department. The statistics for those statistics people illustrate that clearly. It was an obvious priority of Beane and company. Yet, they go out and spend BIG money for Miller. What's that say about their previous moves? Doesn't exactly instill confidence. I like the moves they made to sure up the run defense. They still have a HUGE hole at CB. I suspect they will try to pick up a value guy in free agency or in the early rounds of the draft. I disagree with the Hughes take. In theory I agree but Jerry has pretty much sucked for awhile. Imho, he was invisible and barely serviceable in many of our games last season. It's time to let him walk. I too have mixed feelings about the Miller move. It's great to know Miller is a winner and plays big in big games. That might be just what the Bill's need to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. On the other hand, I'm think they spent too much for Miller and fear he won't be nearly as effective on the Bills team. Instead of Donald getting doubled or tripled it will be Von. Will the 34 year be up to the task? Once again, Oliver and company have to set it up and produce. 2 1 Quote

Locomark Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 The funny thing is I was walking my dog about 45 minutes before the announcement and Bulldog on WGR was running through the days FA highlights and absolutely had said Von resigned with the Rams. I just randomly pulled up my phone to check signing updates and saw he came to the Bills and did a triple take because I thought he was already gone. Quote

And for all the people touting Jerry’s pass rush stats, PFF had him ranked 118 out of 185 edge against the run (58 grade) so he’s basically a 3rd down specialist at this point in his career. He shouldn’t be a primary 3 down player anymore. 1 Quote

Buffalo Junction Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 2 hours ago, Logic said: Agreed. The fact that he had an astounding 82 pressures last year points to him still having plenty of juice. Rams reporters pointed out that his presence on the team really helped free up Aaron Donald to make more plays. The offense can’t double everybody! I’m hoping Miller’s presence here has the same effect on Ed Oliver. An underrated bonus of signing Miller is that he’s known to be a very generous teacher of younger players. He hosts his own pass rush summit every offseason. If the Bills get 1-3 good years out of Miller AND his tutelage helps our trio of youngsters take major steps forward, the big contract will be WELL worth it! Having two D line players that require a double team should definitely create higher win percentages in the passing game. Combine Miller with Oliver and viable 1 techs and this D now has three guys on an any given down that can take on and/ beat double teams…. Edmunds is in a put up or shut up year as he shouldn’t be getting raked by combination blocks perpetually this upcoming season (barring injuries) The teacher aspect is seriously underrated. Addison certainly assisted there, but Miller just has more juice. If Rousseau or any other DEs take a leap next year the pass rush could get serious results. Having an experienced guy that can relate QB tells to younger players on the field will be a bonus as well. Not to mention…. How he studies film. 2 hours ago, The Dean said: A longer contract lets the team spread the bonus hit over 5 years, and reduce THIS season's salary cap, when it matters more. Then they get to restructure down the line and make more of the salary a bonus, since he has a sixth year. It gives him and his agent a big number to publicize, as well. Since I don't know his deal with the agent, I won't speculate on if this makes the agent more $$ up front. Basically, it probably be MORE expensive to make it a shorter deal, even if you could get the player to agree to it. IIRC agent income is capped by the nfl at 3% of total money payed out to the player as it happens. Signing bonus is immediate, workout and roster bonuses occur in the year assigned, etc. When the player receives real cash the agent benefits. 2 1 Quote
Dablitzkrieg Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 Ed Oliver is going to go crazy next year. I like Brandon Beane a lot, but this just seems like an over zealous reach & inexperience GM move. Stupid and he really got fleeced & overpaid! They need better offensive lineman, a cornerback or two, a really good linebacker and another stud wide receiver like DK Metcalf. Also, a better running back then just Singletary. Half the damn team is made up of defensive lineman and way too much money is tied up on the defensive & line across the board. Von is good, but not that great anymore and 32! $120 million for 6 years even if it only ends up being 4 years at $17 million per, ridiculous! $10 million a year... maybe I'd be on board, but welcome Von! I've been on this board since it's inception (just don't post a lot) and I am one of the biggest Bills fans that you'd ever meet. It looks like Schefter corrected the initial numbers and we'll have to see the full details of the contract like always, but it just seems on the surface a large amount of money to spend on a 32-year-old OLB. I never said he was going to play the whole 6 years obviously that won't be the case (probably 3), but if it still ends up at 17 million dollars a year roughly, it appears a little rich. We certainly need better pass rushers No doubt since so many that we've drafted haven't turned into stars. I have a feeling though that some of the recent ones that we've drafted will end up being quite good and get better over the next couple years. We'll see... Certainly glad they got him to come to the Bills. I call BS on all of this. You started in 2018 and I know many thousands of Bills fans WAAAAY bigger than you, given your gutter takes.
