Bills wanted to trade for McCaffrey, Panthers didn't want to move him, per Adam Caplan

What's wrong with the signing? Please explain why you are smarter than Beane and also every single other NFL analyst who says this is a good signing for the Bills?

"Didn't want to move him" aka bills probably threw out a peanuts offer for him to see if panthers would take it.

Agreed. I HIGHLY doubt we were interested in paying 8 mil this year and 12 mil every year after that AND give up premium draft picks for a guy who can't stay healthy and would essentially move Singletary to the bench most of the time, coming off the best he's ever looked.

Maybe called. Made a small offer, looked to see if McCaffrey would rework his deal, and when those didn't come to be, neither side was interested.

Always assumed they'd look at a guy who could provide more in the receiving game, was a better blocker, and more clutch on 3rd downs when they needed to give Singletary a breather. And that's exactly what they did.

All depends on what Beane was willing to give up. To take on that contract it would have to have been a very low draft pick. Maybe even just a swap of picks. We give a 4th and get back a 6th and McCaffrey. The injuries and the contract would have made it a bad deal.

Whoever said no, Carolina or Beane, thank you!

Beane “we’re gonna get a Mcsomething at running back dammit”

I think it was McBeane who said it actually.

It's funny to me how many people are saying that a guy who sustained injuries two years in a row -- at a position where injuries frequently occur, no less -- is broken down, washed up, etc.

If you feel like he's injury prone, fine. If you feel like he's overpaid, fine. But "broken down"? "Finished"? I think that's a bunch of nonsense. He's 25 years old and there are no indications that any of the injuries he has suffered are likely to be in any way career threatening. The exaggeration of his demise by some on this forum is comical.

I mostly agree with this but also...

He was never a workhorse player at Stanford and was not projected to be in the pros, but the Panthers gave him almost 1000 touches his first 3 years. Now he's played a total of 10 games the last 2 years.

I would stay far away from him, even if his contract wasn't so egregious.

Yes, there's little doubt that McCaffrey was unwisely overused by Carolina.

IF he was available at THE RIGHT PRICE and IF he would be open to  renegotiating his contract, THEN I could see a team taking him on and using him more wisely and efficiently than the Panthers did... kind of like how the Bills plan on using McKittrick... as a hybrid passing down back/slot receiver.

Be careful with Adam Caplan. There guys in the media that are passing on real knowledge

Then there's a Lotta guys that are wannabes. Caplan is closer to the latter. Not saying he didn't hear it, but hes not a guy I'd put a lot of trust in

So fwiw, there was this report a week ago:

If it's true, apparently the Bills weren't able or willing to pony up whatever the Panthers wanted besides Beas

wow. I missed that somehow. Thanks.

Seems like a pretty reputable source. I don’t recall pelissero reporting that.

If it’s true, I wonder what the sticking point was that ended trade talks. Knowing Beane, I’m guessing it was the draft pick compensation, with rumors that CAR was holding firm on wanting a 1st round pick and more.

That's a fake account isn't it?

Yeah probably fake.

If this is true, they must be confident about getting Watson. Otherwise, there's no need for Carolina to keep him. They have nothing else

Or, since the Texans had to approve a  trade package prior to giving permission for the Panthers (and all teams) to then speak to Watson:

-They promised Watson that CmC would be his running back if he came to them, or maybe

-They promised to include CmC in the trade package to the Texans

Yeah probably fake.

The E-P-S-N gives it away as a fake, as does the 50 followers the account has.

It's a fake account made to rile people up. Like Adam Schefter accounts where they add another R at the end hoping people won't notice.

I believe it was Beane who wanted their 1st to take on that albatross of a contract…
