What hurt Phillips staying in Buffalo was Star sitting out a year.  If Star hadn't sat, could easily dump him this year for next to nothing and then sign Phillips to replace him.  But once Star sat out, it backed his contract up a year to the point, too expensive to cut him, but not worth the money he's being paid and then couldn't afford another big $$ contract for the same position.

 

 

What really hurt was Beane re-negotiating Star's deal in winter of 2020............should have cut bait right then and there.

 

Yeah the cap hit got pushed.........but with the ability to rollover cap dollars Lotulelei opting out in itself didn't make that much of a difference.........if Phillips had been better and stayed healthier(remember he played injured all last season too)........then he would have gotten paid by the Bills.

it’s sad cause he was suppose to be meatball jr. he was considered somewhat of a draft steal and he just took too long to shine.
