The numbers must be agreeable to those that count, so I’m not sweating it.

Go Bills!!!

When you have Josh Allen and are paying him 45 mil a year, isn't that what you would want them to be anyway?

We'll always be a passing team, but we all saw it last year. You have to at least threaten to run the ball. A more balanced attack only helps the passing game and takes the heat and pressure off Josh.

If you look at our combine meetings, the majority went to pure C/Gs. We will not draft an OT who can maybe play OG. We will draft a true OG and let them shine.

They just extended Morse. A OT/OG makes more sense than a C/G.  Last year was the time to add a C/G and move on from Morse this year.  Now the calculus is opposite as Dawkins will be a candidate for a cap casualty soon and Brown is still a work in progress.  Cutting Williams and extending Morse shifted the balance of need to OT.

My guess is the cap hit will be around $5 million.

This year and next year maybe.  Maybe a void year, 10M for 1 year but split between 2.  You think it’s a 1 year 5m deal?? We couldn’t be that fortunate

I'm not disputing the notion that he is declining, BUT.....he did make his first Pro Bowl ever last season. I know, I know...Pro Bowl voting is a joke.

Anyway....I'd say this makes it quite likely that the Bills draft a guard no earlier than round 3, with an eye on developing him for a year and having him take over for Saffold next season. I didn't necessarily view guard as a likely 1st or 2nd round pick anyway, but it was at least a reasonable possibility. I don't think it is any more. You can lecture me all you want about how Beane will take BPA no matter what, but based on how this regime seems to value (or NOT value) interior linemen in the draft, I predict it'll be a mid-round selection, nothing earlier.

CB, WR, DT still the round 1 and 2 favorites, IMO.

yes, but offense started to play better when we started running the ball more effectively

It's better to be balanced on offense. I do hope they run the ball more even though Allen can throw it all over the field. Kelly threw it all over the field as well but the Bills could still run the ball down other teams throats with Thurman. Better run game will make Allen much more dangerous.

Every passing team is better when play action is an actual threat.  Every QB is better when they can hand off a few more times a game and decrease the chance of getting hit in the pocket.

Or let me re-frame that a bit.   Every QB is better and has better protection/is less likely to be hit in the pocket, when the defense has legitimate doubt as to whether it's run or pass and can not just vacate their run D to go after the passer.

I’m just going by Beanes history with Free agents.  Always seems to pay more than I’d like.

Unfortunately it’s not what you like… it’s what the market dictates…

Last year Allen had one of the highest passer ratings off play action, threw the most play action passes, and threw for the most yards off play action passes. That was with an almost non-existent running game for most of the year. Imagine what he would do wit a more consistent running game.

Can Bates play RG?  He's been advertised as able to play any spot on OL, though his T-rex arms don't favor him at OT

Yeah he can play RG.  I think that would be the initial spot for him once he is officially back in the Mix

Have to sit down and watch a few of his games from last year.

Pretty likely that Kromer had input & I trust Kromer.

Titans may have offered him a restructure at $5 mill & he balked, so we may come in under 10.
