Only reason I'm mildly surprised is because of the dead cap hit. It will be interesting to see what Beane has in mind for the O-line

Thats potentially more turnover than we have had in years.

A zone blocking scheme favors athleticism ahead of power, needing the linemen to adapt and get to the second-level quickly or move off their spot to protect their area. Unfortunately, these are not Williams’ strengths. He is more of a power blocker with heavier feet than the rest of the offensive line. I would also guess they plan to try to bring back both Bates and Boettger.    TBH, I think Williams leaves them room to sign McKenzie and do just that (bring back Bates and Boettger)

 

But they could have an upgrade in mind.

So, that frees up enough money to sign a draft class.

 

More moves to come for sure.  Need to free up big money if we have any thoughts of signing Harrison Philips, or any one of our numerous free agents.  Or whoever takes their place on the roster.  Let alone going after big name FA’s.

This is helpful, but I think it would be ore helpful to distinguish the FA from the guys still under contract.

 

That's still Beasley, Ford, Lotulelei, and Matekavich.  Color key them or something?

Not a shocker at all. Extremely high paid Right Guard who isn't an extremely talented Right Guard. 

 

We paid him like a tackle because that's what he was. He gave us average play at both Tackle and Guard.

 

Plenty of people saw this coming.

because of Josh's arm, we could have one of the most dangerous screen games in the league...  For that... we need to get more athletic and stop overpaying lineman unless he "is that darn good"
