This thread has gone awfully quiet since prices have started going down.

How much did I pay for gas today? $2.17 a gallon. Sam's Club/Colorado.

That's right. Regular unleaded.

Average price in Jan 2020, just before COVID, in the Glory Days of Trumpism? $2.63.

Oh.

Funny, I read the topic as "how much did you pay for gas and groceries today."

No, it isn't! Gas prices are down about 50 cents a gallon since early November.

Inflation adjusted, gas is cheap. Again. Drill, drill, drill. Whatever.

Cheap. Enjoy it. Stop whining!

The outlier drop in price has a lot to do with increased drilling (Willow project) coupled with a decrease in demand.

90% of gas usage is commercial.

Its not a good thing when commercial traffic drops off a cliff.

Again. The thread is about prices TODAY. Not predictions about prices in the future. Not comments about the general level of industrial productivity. Not a historical analysis of gas prices.

Today. Today = cheap. Deal with it.

And therefore quoted 2020 prices. Oh. I suspect that’s ok but only if we stop at a certain time of your choosing.

Look, the whole topic is about inflation under the Biden Administration. The last "normal" economic measure, pre-Biden Administration, was January or February 2020. If we were to look at April/May 2020 we'd see really cheap gas because a huge percentage of the economy was shut down, so that wouldn't tell us anything.

I still remember you guys arguing the president doesn't have anything to do with the price of gas and it was all a result of the global pandemic.

Non sequitur.

Yes, I am arguing that the president doesn't have anything (or at most a tiny thing) to do with the price of gas. And that the price of gas plummeted during COVID as the economy shut down. And that the price of gas spiked during the post-COVID inflationary period. And that the price of gas has now fallen as inflation is coming under control.

You have proven in your comments that the president has very little to do with the price of gas, and the price of gas plummeted during covid (NO DEMAND) and is now coming down again due to a decreased DEMAND and more supply.

That's kind of how it works.

The stats show nothing other than normal seasonal fluctuations in demand.

As far as supply: OPEC has implemented new supply restrictions, but even that isn't moving the price.

And U.S. domestic production is at an all-time high, which certainly has a lot to do with gas prices.

This is what's so stupid about the Trump 2.0 campaign. Drill, drill, drill! Keep doing what we've been doing!! Only the uninformed are falling for this Greatest Hits Reunion Tour.

(He has a point about illegal immigration though)

I went out to the Big Storm Brewery in Orlando yesterday for the first time since 2021 and the difference in cost is at least 50% more. A meal of nachos, a quesadilla, and 4 pints of beer for me and wife was $65 before tip. There is nothing large or special about the food or beer. Last time I was there it was $50 including tip for same type of order. I do understand that Orlando is now an expensive city but this increase is absurd.

It’s somewhat interesting that in order to make your point you are being pedantic regarding the thread title but in another thread defending the presidents of Harvard, MIT, and Penn, you airbrush out the central component of the entire matter (awful comments toward Jews) and turn it all into a hypothetical about white guys in Buffalo. How do you pick and choose when to be a stickler and when to dissemble?
