The latter sets the menu, and the former buys the ingredients. At a point, being safe, with Beane signing high-motor McDermott types who don't challenge the status quo, and paying them well to do that isn't gonna work anymore. It's how you get to be a good regular season team that falters in the post-season. People forget that eventually you gotta take calculated risks and save up your capital for the big move. HappyDays Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Most Super Bowl winners in recent history had an elite pass rusher on the roster. We need to get one. Now that we know Mack was available there's no excuse. 1 2 Quote

The off-season is not over, but yes, running it back by signing low impact depth players the way this current roster is constructed is the wrong move. It’s significantly the wrong move. Beane got the Josh Allen pick right and did a great job trading for Diggs. Obviously the QB is the most important position and covers up a ton of bad. But it doesn’t make him one of the best GM’s in football. 1 Quote

He may be making a mistake by not going all in (if that happens to be the case). McD made a mistake in the KC game. He’s not awful is he? Your exaggerations are embarrassing regarding the trade, I would’ve done that deal in a heartbeat if I were Beane. Oh well. Hopefully we can get an impact pass rusher without giving up picks. Overdorf was car-pooling with Beane today 1 1 Quote

That includes the GM’s who are in charge of both teams from the Super Bowl this year. I completely understand that so many people will not be satisfied until there is a Super Bowl trophy in Buffalo, but the position that this team has been in the past two years because of signings and drafts that Brandon Beane has been in charge of has been a great treat for so many of us who have watched this team for decades. Let's see how many super bowls this gets the Rams There's been plenty of teams that have made Blockbuster trades and won out free agency and they never won Jack The Patriots and Brady on the other hand never won the off season and won like six super bowls... And they hardly made any big splashes Beane has been plenty aggressive in his regime... he's identified players he's liked whether they worked out or not and gotten them... Moved up for Josh .. moved up for Tremaine.. traded a first for Stef.. has been retaining all of our homegrown players .. he's not been Joe schmo 1 Quote
Motor26 Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Can we at least wait until free agency starts to decide if Beane is doing a good job or not? 3 3 Quote

If you just look at it today, then all you get is two special teams players re-signed and quality depth at LB and OL gone. The team is arguably worse today than it was after the season ended, other teams are already better, and some but not much improvement on the cap has been made. But it's early. It's ok to criticize the moves Beane makes but it is really hard to criticize the moves he doesn't make until we see how the whole off-season unfolds. That said, a player who would be a significant upgrade to our defense was had for a 2nd round pick and change. Yes he is expensive but his contract could have been reworked to make it happen. Good way to summarize things so far. Free Agency hasn't even started yet, and some are all worked up. I think Beane does need to add some playmakers to the team (especially on defense). I think trading Edmunds would be a start. (He plays too important of a position to be so lacking in his playmaking skills and instincts) But things will play out over the next couple of months. Disappointing how tight we are against the cap. The Star contract really was a headscratcher. But I think this will be the year that we see what Beane can do to really give us a strong shot to get to the top of the mountain. If we crash and burn again, then someone will have to take responsibility. But I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for another season. Quote

Close your eyes and for a moment imagine the Jets drafting Allen. Then evaluate Beane's performance. It has been filled with ups and downs. Diggs trade was amazing. Keeping Milano and Johnson was good. The contracts for Star and Murphy and some of the other dead weight he has acquired have been really bad. Even the decent FA signings like Morse and Williams were overpriced. His drafts outside of Allen are good not great - Bass, Knox, Davis, Oliver all solid picks. Apparent terrible misses on Ford, Epenesa, and maybe Moss. Edmunds is a story in and of itself. Without Allen, it's conceivable both Beane and McDermott would have been fired by now. But even with their mistakes Allen makes up for all of it. 1 1 Quote
