Gavin in Va Beach Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 I didn't see this movie, but the local movie reviewer who shows up on the radio from time to time, liked it. Cage usually makes pretty good flicks. A dog here and there, but "Raising Arizona", It Could Be You", and "City of Angels" were well-received. 330190 Raising Arizona is a comedy classic! "Boy, do you know you have a panty on your head?" City of Angels-so depressing I felt like slitting my wrists when it was over. Not a bad flick though...Dennis Franz stole it with his few scenes, IMO.
ajzepp Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 What's netflix? I remember hearing the name on the radio, but paid no attention. 330195 Netflix is an online rental service that has become so popular and has taken so much business from Blockbuster, that Blockbuster has had to cut late fees and copy the Netflix business plan in order to stay competitive. Essentially, you pay Netflix a flat fee per month depending on how many movies you want to have out at one time. You create a list at their website of what movies you want, and then after receiving your initial three rentals, every time you return one they send you the next one on your list. I am the type of person who would rather watch a film than television (with the exception of sports, that is). I typically watch 4-6 films per week. At four films per week, 16 per month, it would cost me approx (16x$4) $64 if I just rented them at the store. I pay Netflix $29 per month. It's a huge savings, and I can basically rent all I want w/out the price going up. They have thousands of titles - films both foreign and domestic, music events, sporting events, etc.

And I agree about Franz.......

So we decided to get a sitter and go out and have some fun. So, we went out to dinner and then to a movie. That movie was City of Angels. Bad move, damn movie was so depressing.

I'm not sure of the current prices now...they have distribution centers everywhere now it seems so you should be able to get your movies the very next day after selecting them online (assuming you make your picks in the morning) and yeah, netflix has an amazing selection...i loathe going into blockbuster B&M's these days because you can't find anything obscure...the only thing netflix doesn't carry is porn
gantrules Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 I have Netflix....it's 17.99 for 3 a month. Works out good with the kids. I haven't been to blockbuster in months....

Rico Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 City of Angels pales in comparison to the original, the classic Wings of Desire.

Even though I could save a few bucks going with the 3 at a time, I like having a few sitting around to pick from lol. It's like my own personal video store, and it's worth the extra $10 a month I pay for this program. I'm going to be buying a front projector for my little home theater later on this summer.....I may never come out of the room! I agree with you about the B&Ms....I have not set foot in a Blockbuster, Hollywood, or otherwise in over two or three years lol.

You can do a lot for relatively little money, too. There is an entire world of sound encoded on these DVDs.....when you have the set-up to hear it all, it's pretty damn cool!

I get about 50-55 titles a month this way.
stuckincincy Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 City of Angels pales in comparison to the original, the classic Wings of Desire. 330258 I knew it was a remake. I'll watch for the original. Thanks.

Rico Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 lol.....Does the digital audio carry over when you do that? 330306 Only what I choose to keep... if available, I'll keep the DTS & strip away the rest.
Smoker2Buffalo Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 I've never quite undertstood th concept of buying movies. Once you've seen it, most of the allure is gone (since you now know how it all turns out). For me, music and concert videos are an exception. There are very few movies I'd watch multiple times. Hell, I rarely have time to see the new ones coming out, let alone watching old movies for a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time. 330062 I love to rewatch movies. If you haven't seen it in a few years especially, it can be just as good as watching it for the first time. I'm a bit of a movie buff though, at least when it comes to Spielberg films. Owning the DVDs are great for many reasons: rewatching, showing friends who've never "experienced" the film, or all the bonus stuff on the DVD.

Whenever I am setting up the audio on a DVD, I get all excited when I see "DTS 5.1" listed. My friends and family have yet to understand this, so I'm glad to see there is someone else who does
