The NFL-XFL agreement will give the NFL a "petri dish" to experiment with proposed rules, test new equipment and develop prospective officials and coaches, XFL president Russ Brandon told ESPN.

A Buffalo Bills executive for two decades, Brandon said NFL officials routinely discussed the need for such an outlet after NFL Europe shuttered in 2007.

"People would ask, 'What are the opportunities to look at the game through a different lens from a player development standpoint?'" Brandon told ESPN. "'How can you be an incubator or an accelerant in many different verticals, from officiating to rules innovations to playing surfaces, to player development?' You can go on and on.

  • Albany,n.y. changed the title to Russ Brandon: He's never going away

I think this article is far more noteworthy for the partnership between the NFL and XFL to test out rules and equipment innovation than it is for the mention of Russ Brandon.

You should consider changing the title and mentioning the XFL or I predict that a duplicate post will happen.

we hear this same BS every time one of these bogus/doomed leagues relaunches:   "the NFL will be adapting our cutting edge rules of play!"

then they go belly up and the NFL yawns again...

Doubt this succeeds, but at least this zombie league is starting to get the right idea - you can’t exist in competition with the NFL, they really need to figure out a viable way to work with and compliment the NFL.

Good ole Russ will fail the XFL just like he failed the Bills.

He did the exact opposite from a business standpoint.

Say what you want about him, but made a living here in Buffalo polishing a turd and we all ate it up.

He knows how to work a market.

Edit: no I'm not russ or his mom.

Just a quick side note to the youngsters (<45 years old) on this board.  You know what?  One needs to give a bit of grudging respect to people that can keep reinventing themselves.

Don't be so quick to spit or scorn.  It might be you someday.  And kudos to you.

No.  I like a constant reminder of our misery.  Makes me appreciate how elitist our current thread topics are.

Not all, just the "He's only in charge of marketing" crowd.

The bills business side always feels like Uncle Buck and friends. Like a small town with nepotism (interbreeding). “Director of Marketing” anywhere else would be an actual professional

I see background shows on some of these people and they all seem barely capable. Russ comes from that gene pool.
